I had not heard of Pendleton. Am currently listening to his various audio demos, they really are very nice. I love the Found Maschine sounds. :tu: Oh, I'm starting to feel the GAS building. :borg:

I bought a ragtime piano for kontakt a year or two ago. Sounds very old and dusty! :)
You should be able to find it by searching KVR.

Kore 2 Player by Native Instruments had a lot of "weird" acoustic instruments, actually Acoustic Refractions soundpack.
https://youtu.be/Vng0L08y7L0
Bowed guitar, bowed piano, prepared piano, etc.
I still have Kore 2 Player installed and even nowadays I sometimes take samples out of that soundpack and resynthesize them with Harmor to get weird but organic sounds.

Alchemy also had some good soundpacks, similar to Acoustic Refractions.

Then there is Madrona Labs Kaivo
http://madronalabs.com/products/kaivo
which can produce highly organic and weird instruments at the same time because it's based on physical modeling and granular synthesis.

New Sonic Arts Granite
http://www.newsonicarts.com/html/granite.php
is granular based VSTi and can produce weird organic stuff easily, just load some sample/loop of real instruments and mess around with settings. I used Granite and FL Studio's Granulizer as a starting point to create something, then importing that into Harmor to create weird organic stuff.

It's the ocean of inspiration and experimentation.
For example, here I just dropped a piano phrase (original at the start) into Harmor and messed around with 2-3 knobs (automating the Time knob so that sample is played from a different place later on, at 17 seconds) and in the end adding some delay and reverb from Harmor too, everything done in like 3 minutes, with Harmor it's that easy by using the most basic stuff.

people think, oh, it's just a lowpass filter, because they know what it's like without it on.

i said, talking about lowpass filtering.

I think the Hollow Sun instruments are great in this area of sound. Be sure to check them out - very creative, carefully crafted and affordable.
