Sampling pianos is indeed about making choices.

We chose to sample the sustain and non-sustain in great detail. The soft pedal response is synthesised, because to replicate it in equal detail would add another 20GB. We simply couldn't do it all.

Galaxy vintage D does not have sustain pedal samples at all - they chose to synthesise those instead. Our decision was that the sustain sound of a piano is more important than una-corda.
