Is there a software to select a scale and allowing to play only the white keys?

Of course I could learn some more scales. I could also learn playing drum, guitar, etc. But the softwares allow us to use all the instruments (or almost all) without knowing playing them, right? So I wonder if there is a software that allows us to play every scale without bothering to know how to play them.

Okay I'm not trying to be a jerk here okay, but can you please explain to me what the point would be of making music if you are not the one making the music?

Piano is not easy to learn, some fingering may be difficult indeed... but I think it's a wonderful tool to to learn scales by manually transposing them. In my opinion, it's easier to think in the lines of "I'll play all those keys raised by x steps" or "I'll make chords on all those keys except those out of scale", than to learn a lot of positions. For example, once you know the F Major scale features a Bb instead of B, then it's easy to make the right chords to fit the scale.

That's my opinion and my way of thinking, it works for me but I may be completely wrong from an academic point of view (I don't know). In my view, thinking about "positions" for piano it is not the best strategy.

Yes there are a few solutions for this like Cales: http://www.codefn42.com/cales/index.html

"Cales is a VST plugin that allows you to map your keyboard’s keys to a musical scale. This will ensure that you will always stay in key, and never hit a wrong note. When "easy mode" is enabled, you can play any scale using only the white keys with "C" always being the tonic (or "root" note). More than 20 scales are included, and you can add your own custom scales."

I personally also liked and used ChordSpace Playa alot in the past: http://www.chordspace.com

There is actually - NI Komplete Kontrol can do this when the scales function is on and set to easy mode.

That's the one I couldn't remember :dog:
Tonespace is another interesting one

I estimate in 90% of all cases all you need is to Transpose your keyboard in order to play just the white keys.
Question is: how many semitones...
With just 12 choices that's a lot easier than picking a root and scale (hundreds, thousands possibilities)

I cant think of a daw that wouldn't have at least a transpose midi function. and of course there are more advanced scale midi plugins in different hosts, the problem there is that sometimes if you are using those, you will have some adjacent keys that will sound the same note, which is why I hardly ever use them. learning is never bad. I'm no music school guy, but you are limiting your own music by not expanding past the white keys, To be honest I find several scales much more comfortable to play than Cmaj and Amin, once your fingers get used to it.

Didn't know about Reaper. Does that work in real-time?
Yes, it's a plugin that "changes note numbers" on the fly as they trickle in, no need for delays.
Reaper does it stock, no need for the JS plugin

Maybe we can agree that different people have different perceptions? Diversity is wonderful! :D

I only know an iOS (and Android) app which can do this which works as midi controller and you could also use 4 different scales at the same time f.e. ThumbJam.
Of course someone could program each semi-tone only on white keys etc. via a midi FX plug-in like Chtulhu.
Of course it's better to learn stuff but there is nothing wrong to use scales etc. at the beginning.
You also can do creative stuff with using different scales with arps and whatever.
The world is not only black and white like some people think :D
Then there is microtonal music too and a lot other stuff.

Then there are midi controllers where you see the keys light up in a scale and such things.
The "dangerous" thing is you get lazy after some time and never learn it to play without help.
I did it for to long too and than figured out it was not too hard to learn and more fun too without help.
Most important as you say..... have fun with what you do!

Studio One 3 Pro does this out of the box.

I don't know if lower versions do.
