If you liked that, check out 'Muscle Shoals' to see the 70's version.
+1 for both of these!

Here's some of my stuff: https://soundcloud.com/shadowsoflife. If you hear something you like, I'm looking for collaborators.

(and thx Numanoid for bumping a necro thread... again)
Another good one, yes, along with "Who's Harry Nilsson..." and pretty much anything on The Doors.

I enjoyed this one on early Peter Gabriel, showing how he worked at the time.

Not a documentary, but I enjoy watching The Doors (1991) again and again

The already mentioned Wrecking Crew documentary is one of those dvd's that comes with some nice bits in the Extras/Deleted Scenes section.

For example, Don Peake, who I don't think appeared in the main documentary, and IIRC started out with the Everly Brothers and, among other projects, went on to be in the Ray Charles Band for a long stretch.

An interesting era for L.A. studio musicians that really came and went much more quickly than anyone probably expected.

(BTW, light strings on a 335 might make bending easier but generally are a little more difficult to keep in tune than, say, his old Tele. :ud:)

I'm having a hard time believing that this was missed, buy me or others, but here is the best music doc I've ever seen:

I've seen it so many times now I guess it's become just a "duh" thing, but it covers important history, has terrific music and clips from the past, and shows the story of that important studio plus............GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw this years ago, very good doc.

So far I've seen:

- Woodstock
- Don't look Back (Dylan)
- Leonard Cohen Isle of Wright
- Let's get Lost (Chet Baker)
- Marley
- Seaching for Sugar Man
- Shine a Light (Rolling Stones)
- The Last Waltz (The Band)
- Straight no Chaser (Thelonious Monk)
- When You're Strange (The Doors)
- Tom Waits' Jukebox
- Led Zeppelin
- Lever! Leeft! (Cornelis Vreeswijk)
- Festival Express (Janis Joplin, The Band e.o.)
- Stop Making Sense (Talking Heads)
- A portrait of Philip Glass
WoodStock is epic!

True, my favourite out of all of the Doors documentaries is "The Doors: When You're Strange".

That hibidy character mentioned it on the first page, he was cool, whatever happened to him?

I'll add:

We Jam Econo - The Story of the Minutemen

Beware of Mr Baker - a complex character...

Every Everything: The Music, Life & Times of Grant Hart - I'm biased because he's one of my all time faves but I could listen to him talk all day (which he pretty much does here :))

He's dead. Killed by cats at a local shelter. I know, ironic, eh?
