Is there a way to set a different preset as default?

I found the information on setting a default bank and setting a default folder, but I'm wondering if there's a way to set one of the other presets in the default bank as the initial preset when you first load the VST.

Maybe if you change the init preset then replace it with the one you created?

Yes, just replace the first preset in FactoryBank1 with the preset you'd like to start up with.
