Congrats to Ingonator for the great panoramic (BTW I'm ever thinking Ingo is the maximun expert about Synthesis)...
Well, in my humble opinion (as audio engineer iv'e study sampling instead of synthesis) the best experience are most of these libraries but in giga format (also the free libraries), I can't explain why but i hear better (more realistic) than others (Kontakt included!)
Some free library i love:
- SoundBrewer Old Upright Piano
- Mats Helgesson Maestro Concert Grand v2
Some other onorable mention: Adam Monroe Austrian Grand, Acoustica Pianissimo, Versilian Studio VSUpright_v1...
PS: Excuse my poor english (not my first/native language)

I am indeed no pianist and also not really an expert for pianos (and never owned one of the really expensive libraries yet) but recently while browsing trough some discussion/comparison threads i found nobody really seems to have done such a list with the available grand pianos. At teh end i was actually surprised about the sheer amount that is available now, especially those using the Steinway Model D.Turello wrote:Congrats to Ingonator for the great panoramic (BTW I'm ever thinking Ingo is the maximun expert about Synthesis)...
While doing this i found a lot i never noticed before and there is at leats one or two i am really interested in at the moment (besides those i alraedy own). One of them is the Impact Soundworks Pearl Concert Grand (= Yamaha C7) as mentioned earlier here.
Those i bought recently were Addictive Keys Studio Grand and NI Alicia's Keys (that one quite cheap second hand). The idea for those i got from discussions here at KVR and otehr places (and some audio demos + videos).

I just downloaded this and it seems to be a Gigastudio file (*.gig). Aynway it seems to be possible to import this in Kontakt 5 and create nki files and a Sample folder with the samples from it. If i see it correctly the piano seems to include samples of the 88 keys and each with 5 velocity zones. In the converted nki file teh velocit switching doe snot seem to be smooth and it does not seem to be possible to play really quiet notes.Turello wrote: - Mats Helgesson Maestro Concert Grand v2

Well, I use to load it in Soundlib G-Player because i like the Giga format how sounds (good to me, better than Kontakt sampling/synthesis)... If You can try the demo of this (cheap/economic) sampler...

Edit: Probably I have acoustic allucinations (I can't exclude!) but i hear/feel better (also the feeling with master keyboard)...

It looks like Bechstein will release their own Kontakt based Piano librtary soon:
http://www.kvraudio.com/news/c-bechstei ... -1st-34738
The new "Bechstein Digital" website only shows a logo and a date so far:
http://www.bechstein-digital.com/
Very interesting as libraries done by actual hardware piano developers, especially well known like Bechstein, seem to be VERY rare (if there are any so far).
FWIW i currently got NI The Maverick and NI The Gentleman that seem to be based on Bechstein pianos (while The Gentleman is an Upright).

Yes the new software piano from Bechstein looks very exciting. I wonder how many velocity layers it comes with and what other extra features it has like release sample, pedal noise, sympathetic resonance and so on, which are quite standard in today's virtual piano.
Just add to your list of Bechstein based virtual pianos, True Keys German is also Bechstein.

I added teh Model 7 and Model D to the list. The other 2 do not fit in the list so far as currently this is focused on acoustic grand pianos (the other 2 in the bundle are an Upright and an Electro-Acoustic Piano).Cepheus wrote:Chocolate Audio has a 88 Series Pianos which include the Yamaha Model 7 Grand, Steinway Model D Grand Steinbach Upright and Model 80 Electric Grand.

The new "Bechstein Digital" website with the new Kontakt library by Bechstein seems to work now:Ingonator wrote:It looks like Bechstein will release their own Kontakt based Piano librtary soon:

more details: https://www.bechstein-digital.com/en/details/
The "C. Bechstein Digital Grand" seems to be based on a Bechstein D 282 concert grand.
The size seems to be around 25 GB and it has 26 velocity layers.
The price with is 249€ so at the higher end for piano libraries.
I also added this to teh list at the OP now.
