Hi,

I am looking for sound samples for the petrol / kerosene / oil can sound, the way it is used in Yemenite Jewish trad (and new) music.

If you're unsure which sound I do mean, have a listen to Ofra Haza's Im nin'alu. (The kerosene can be seen at 1:09-1:11 in the video: https://youtu.be/O-R-Z8DYb5s?t=68
...as a feller has it on his shoulder, and plays it with his fingers.) The rhythm in this video is not the "typical" Yemenite Jewish 'beat', though.

Here is another example, the "petrol can" being played on camera:

I am interested in world music and would like to use that soundv :phones: in whichever form (Apple loop, wav) I can get it, although I only have the Kontact Free player, not the full thing.

Although SONOKINETIC have some Yemenite sound samples, I have not found the kerosene can among them, although it is an essential thing in some of the traditional Yemenite Jewish music.

I am most grateful for any attempts to help me finding this stuff.

With warm regards,

A c.

Don't know if this is exactly what you want, but Zero-G have a sample collection called 'Junk Percussion' that seems to include oil cans. I think it's on offer this weekend.

Hi, counterparty,

And thank you for the tip! I fear this might not be what I am looking for, but I might end up getting it all the same, for some other use(s).

What I am looking basicly is a 1,5-2 gallon (empty) oil can being drummed the way the Yemenite Jews use it in their trad. music. Very peculiar sound and rhythm.

So I'm still searching! :D
