It's difficult for me to understand the kind of attitude displayed by eddiejaguar, jstorerjet and lazershonoob. If you want the devs to spend more time participating in the forum, then a touch of kindness/politeness helps a lot to make that happen.
What do you want them to do in a working day? Try to work through bugs and new features to improve Bitwig or to spend time getting demotivated by taking crap from people in this forum?
No one will want to spend their time taking crap if they have other options on what to do.
The official communication channel for bugs and feature requests is to go through their support tracker. If they would spend more time here, then they wouldn't have time to build features or fix bugs.
Remember: It is a small development team that is building a complex product. Just because you don't feel they immediately address the issue you're having, doesn't mean that it isn't in their backlog of things to fix.
To the Bitwig team: I'm very happy with Bitwig Studio so far, although I have some bugs to report (I just have to get around to do that...). For me nothing is a complete showstopper. Thanks for making a product which has enabled me to get more productive in making music in a workflow that fits me.
Can everyone just calm down and spend their time making music instead? Please.

Bitwig are not my friends, I am their client. There is a vast chance they are adopting near zero new customers at this point with the sluggish development time. A team this small needs the goodwill of all of its customers as word of mouth advertising is huge for them. I would not recommend Bitwig to anyone looking for a new DAW as i'm not sure its even being realistically worked on at this point. If it takes this long to push updates there is a good chance the initial code base was subpar for whatever reason, maybe they were overreaching to too many platforms when they were not prepared to do so. It seems they cut as many corners as possible and have excuses about not including features people expect with no feasible replacement functionality that isn't convoluted.Excds wrote:It's difficult for me to understand the kind of attitude displayed by eddiejaguar, jstorerjet and lazershonoob. It would take under 10 minutes to write a blog entry once a week of what is happening at Bitwig. I mean there are only a few people to account for.
Also, I am calm, I am concerned for the health of a company I made an investment in by buying their product. Until I get fed up enough to sell my license I have as much right to complain as anyone else that owns one. At this point I am simply waiting to see if 2.0 (should it ever see the light of day) will be a free upgrade to people that came aboard at version 1.0.

When have I ever been rude or impolite? Just expressing my opinion and frustration. I don't think I've gone out of line though. Except I have real customer expectations. Which are warranted after purchasing a productExcds wrote:It's difficult for me to understand the kind of attitude displayed by eddiejaguar, jstorerjet and lazershonoob. So spreading misinformation and wild conjecture is protecting your investment? Naaaaaaa... You are just trolling.jstorerjet wrote:

Bitwig has averaged an update release about every month for the past year. In fact, today they just uploaded a new RC beta with additional fixes.

This attitude seems to be fairly unique to software and seems particularly prevalent in music tech.jstorerjet wrote:Bitwig are not my friends, I am their client. You didn't make an investment, you brought a product. When version 2 comes out, you'll have the option of buying it or not. It's the same with buying anything. Version 1 won't stop working when v2 comes out and buying software based on future potential is a pretty flawed way of making a purchasing decision.

I also notice its only the same few people that come to Bitwig's defense. A few fan boys does not make a successful product.

I didn't defend anything.
I like and use Bitwig, I hope the company does well and that there'll be a version 2. I do not, however, feel that because I brought version 1, that I am somehow owed a version 2.

First of all, I want to say I love Bitwig and I don't want to take sides here but honestly, more transparency wouldn't hurt. I like the idea of a weekly or even bi-weekly update of what's going on development wise, if the team is willing to share tidbits of feature x they're working on or even let people know they're looking into defect y. 30 mins from one person to type up an update every 1-2 weeks would have minimal development impact, but it would build a lot more faith across the community and set realistic expectations. I'm a full-time dev as well so I understand how annoying it is to take time off of dev work for something else, but in the long term, a short update far outweighs any work a dev can get done in 30 mins.

Nor do a few detractors spreading misinformation make an unsuccessful one.jstorerjet wrote:I also notice its only the same few people that come to Bitwig's defense. A few fan boys does not make a successful product.
The product will sink or swim on its merits as a musical tool. It's working well for me and the fundamental design and implementation is my favorite of the various DAWs I've used. I'm happy with Bitwig and whenever there is a paid upgrade, I'll for sure be getting it.
Oh, and I'm happy they are still focusing on bug fixing. That was the most pressing need and it is shaping up nicely.

What misinformation? I'm making very realistic assumptions not proclaiming the sky is falling...I'm glad you <3 Bitwig it shows in spades. If only all of Bitwigs clients were pdxindy it would be rainbows, sunshine, and lollipops!pdxindy wrote:Nor do a few detractors spreading misinformation make an unsuccessful one.jstorerjet wrote:I also notice its only the same few people that come to Bitwig's defense. You claimed nobody is buying it, development is sluggish or non-existent, that they cut corners, might go out of business etc. Those are exactly 'sky is falling' proclamations... and the suggestion that it is not being worked on is an obvious fallacy since they just released a new RC version.jstorerjet wrote:What misinformation? Oh, and I do not love Bitwig. It's just some software. I find it useful and derive some pleasure from that use and if at some point it stopped being so, I'd use something else.
If you are not feeling some rainbow and sunshine in your life, that has nothing to do with any software nor can any software address that lack.
