Hello everyone :) I'm new here and new to the world of production. I'm 24 and finishing up grad school. I have a few years background in djing (mostly edm- house, trap, dubstep, etc. i'm an ex raver lol), as well as making EDMashups along the lines of 3lau and Kap Slap. I have all my mashups uploaded onto my bandcamp, and my production material thus far is on my soundcloud. As of now I have been dabbling with orchestral-like composition. I think it's really emotional and I can't wait to see what's all on this forum about it. Any suggestions (VSTs, tutorials, sample packs, etc.) would also be appreciated! Here's my setup:

DAWs:
Presonus S1
Acid Pro 7 (I used to make my mashups here so i mostly use it for vocal mixing)

VSTs:
Addictive Keys
Edirol Orchestral

Hardware:
M-Audio Axiom 25
Old af Yamaha keyboard

Nice to meet you and looking forward to being here !

Hi Robby, welcome to KVR - one of the most ridiculous communities I've encountered online (for better or worse)! Will have to check out your music.

As far as plugins/sample libs are concerned, I'd advise giving your DAW's built-in stuff a thorough review and filling in the gaps from there. Chasing the latest/greatest gear and software gets expensive and time consuming. It's always interesting to read interviews with people like Brian Eno who get incredible results from a limited array of options.

That said, Native Instruments Reaktor is a rabbit hole of effects/synthesis options, and their Kontakt is the industry standard sampler with zillions of orchestral libraries available. I have a monthly Groove 3 tutorial subscription and find it well worth the $$.

Winston, thanks for the warm welcome! I have been experimenting and will continue to. Yeah, just from watching youtube videos and stuff I have heard of Kontakt and how great it is. Will take all of your advice, looking forward to learning!
