Extract tempo map from Live, import to Logic?

As the subject says.. is this actually possible? I have a complicated tempo map I could _really_ do with importing to Logic.. Looking through all the Live menus I don't see anything specific to Tempo Map exports..

Consolidated drum clips which run the entire length of the track don't seem to include tempo changes (on import to Logic).. selecting the tempo automation data in Live doesn't bring up any extra options either..

Is this (im)possible?

Not sure what tempo maps are, but Live has "grooves" (basically the timing and velocity of the notes or drums) that can be extracted from audio.
Those are actually MIDI files, you can drag a Groove into a MIDI track (which will also allow to see the notes), then export as MIDI.
Don't know if Logic can use that MIDI as a tempo map.

I never tried before, but I just tested on a 5 min drum stem and it did extract a 5 min long Groove.

Thanks pottering, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for. Unless there is a way to extract a tempo map from a groove template (and I'm not aware of a method to do this) then it just remains a MIDI file with offset triggers.

Thanks for taking a look though :)

Googled "MIDI tempo map", seems it is a MIDI type 1 feature (like multiple tracks, tempo map is a extra track actually), and Live only exports MIDI type 0, unfortunately.

Excellent work :) That is a satisfyingly technical explanation which gives me an absolute answer:

The tempo map CANNOT be extracted from Live to Logic!

At least two people learned something new today :)

It just occurred me that perhaps it is possible to record real-time the MIDI with tempo, sent through virtual MIDI cables?

Seems Ableton Link is all about sending tempo data as well.

(I never tried and I'm on PC, so I don't know if that would work)

I'm on PC but you should be able to do it via rewire with reaper.

1/ Make Ableton the master and reaper the rewire slave
2/ In Reaper go to project properties and set time-base to 'time'
3/ In Reaper arm a track,press record
4/ It will then record in real time, you'll see tempo markers appear.
5/ In Reaper Insert a midi item spanning the project
6/ In Reaper Export project midi, from the file menu.

That midi item will have the tempo map which can be imported into most Daws.

It's a pain but it works.

Thanks crashedthecar - looks like good information.

Sadly, Reaper doesn't want to start as a Rewire slave - I've even checked the "Check for device on startup and enter slave mode if present" option and still nothing :(
I also made sure both programs are running in the same CPU architecture as per this reddit post:

I don't see any Rewire targets available in Live when Reaper is running - got any ideas how to solve this?

That doesn't sound good.

On windows you have the standard reaper shortcut and also other shortcuts, one being start reaper as rewire slave.
When you dragged the reaper app to applications was there also a rewire shortcut to drag?
