I don't think it's a DAW. It's probably like UAD Apollo, for tracking and real time effects.

Hmm.. it looks for me as a 8-channel audio interface with new components/chips, so very low latency, very linear etc. (no DSP).
But I don't understand the combination with Slate plugins and what is the real deal with this interface (maybe the price?).

A DAW is basically a virtual recording studio aint it

A DAW is an environment - usually software based these days - for manipulating audio in digital form. Being able to edit and mix audio files would be a basic requirement. I think SS wants to leave all that guff to apple and steinberg etc.
