What's the point of buying the newest plugins once you already have your bases covered?

Noppes , I am just saying reaktor covers most synthesis methods , and is really good at it .egbert101 wrote:It's a bit like telling people that buying a Toyoto Prius makes every other form of vehicle redundant.gentleclockdivider wrote:Get your synthesis methods covered .
Sutractive : covered with reaktor
Additive : covered with reaktor
F.M./Phase modulation : covered with reaktor
Phase distortion : covered with reaktor
modal synthesis /karplus strong :covered with reaktor
vocoder / resynthesis ( sines) : covered with reaktor
303 : covered with abl3 ( someone needs to create a decent reaktor 303 emu..it's possible )
Reaktor can be a prius , when you're using( some of the ) 20 year old primary modules ...it will get you there
, but reaktor can also be a classy jaguar oldtimer , or a bugatti veyron .
Only downside is cpu , so in that case more cpu efficient plugins are better .

It's a little bit like asking a child "at what point do you have enough LEGO".

For me, inspiration always come from outside. Rarely I will begin to work with some idea on mind, so, I can get inspiration from some preset, some loop, some particular idiosyncrasy of a synth... So, much synths = more input sources for my mental 'algorithm'.fluffy_little_something wrote:And many humans simply need change, be it a new synth, a new car, a new shirt, a new girlfriend...

In about 80% of the caes, I suspect this is true. If I were forced to live with what I had right now, I'd be set for the rest of my life of dark-ambient creation.Examigan wrote:Maybe it is just GAS.
But when I see "New version available".. I can't.. stop.. buying...

It's actually different. It's more like asking "Why do you need more LEGO, if you already have enough to keep you busy and interested now?", without any knowledge of what LEGO toys could come in the future, or consciousness, that there could be much more interesting LEGO toys for the child one day. It's like saying that i will stick with 32-bit and Windows XP until i die. Ok, i exaggerated a bit now. But, i guess that may make the point a bit more clear.mgw38 wrote:It's a little bit like asking a child "at what point do you have enough LEGO".

And the fact that synth x has 10 features and synth y has the same 10 features, doesn't mean that they're equivalent. They're instruments after all.
