Sorry, if there's already one of these threads, please move my post if so.

Rather than extend the iOS thread, I thought a separate Android one would be handy as Android is becoming more and more useful.

App developer here. Just wondering how useful these sales and temporary bundles are? How much must the price be reduced to lure you in?

I have tried to reduce the price of my "main" app (Fakebook Pro, a sheet music reader), usually from USD 2.98 to 1.98 or 1.50 for a week or two. There definitely is a peak in sales, but I'm wondering if those downloading the app would have bought it sooner or later anyway? I mean, $2.98 is not a lot of money...

How do you think about sales and what makes you download something?
Skrivarna Software - professional apps for musicians.
Fakebook Sheet Music Reader - the Real Book.

Personally i think sales are all a bit 'IK multimedia' create a fake price and then constantly create sales just as extra marketing, just feels completely crap, set a price, if it is useful i will buy it.

The most straight answer is the most twisted one: it depends :D
Some developers set a high price, make seasonal sales 3 times in season and some set the price once and do the marketing. I guess all you need to do is pick a path which appeals you and follow it. Yea, it does sound cliche, but what else is left? You need to know your customers in the first place though. Sometimes they simply don't like to pay for the app, but would like to buy some premium content.
