Happy New Year, all.
I am going to spend many nights in hotels this year so I am wondering if there is any way I can access my home rig (reaper and a bunch of synths / kontakt libraries) via my iPad or laptop, the Internet and using a portable MIDI keyboard. Obviously, there is going to be latency. Has anyone got this going? How? Is the latency bearable?

I don't think it will let you use your keyboard, but splashtop will let you run your desktop system over the net in theory.
Splashtop Personal - Remote Desktop by Splashtop Inc.

I've never tried it over the www but have used it at home on the home wifi network where it works fine.
My guess is that with a fast internet connection it should be ok.

Many famous DJs spend many nights in hotels. They just have all they need on a modest laptop. No extra latrncy....

Yes, although most professional DJs are not using Terrabytes of sample libraries on SSDs.
I suspect the answer is going to be shelling out a lot of money for a new and eye-wateringly expensive laptop. I can think of many other things that I would rather spend the money on.

Terrabytes? What's our earth got to do with it?
You'd be surprised what our stars do in airport lobbies and hotel rooms...
Anyway, this sounds more like a storage problem than CPU processing problem. Maybe there are USB enclosures that can hold a couple of SSD drives (a storage array)

I think an answer is to keep everything simple. A laptop (or even a tablet depending on the controller connection) should be enough for you. The latency of signal coming forth and back surely be unbearable.
Split your library and choose "packages for travels". After all you don't use all of them at the same time...
