Almost 4 months ago I took a look at the painting of the same name by KVR's own drumity, and agreed to try to write a piece of music based upon my impressions/feelings about the aforementioned painting. I've been quite busy at work recently, so, with one thing and another, this took much longer than it should have, and is the first piece I have completed in 2017.

Long story short - Cinematic/Orchestral/Choral/Synthetic/Sampled

No real mastering on here. I just ran this through a couple of EQ units

Nice!

What is the female choir patch?

(sonically, I much prefer this to 'mastered')

Post

great buildup, as usual on your works. fluid chord progressions and nice atmosphere.
at first i was like, oh cool! Tim covered the Jaws movie theme!
i like the choir voice sound. i would not known it was not mastered if you hadn't
said so, sounds good as-is. the ending NASA beep was my kind of ending!

What a nice surprise !
After ages my monstrous project has a new contributor.
Thanks very much for that Tim !

The music fits nicely with the painting, which has been chosen by
several guys now, seems like it has some deep concentrated energy :)

Tim, if you like I can master the track.
You know the procedure ;-)

For all others, it is fundamental to know the painting, which was the inspiration
for the music. That´s the idea of the PROJECT

I try to post the painting here now, but I am not sure if dropbox let you see it.
Please confirm that the link is working:

Thanks very much for listening, Jan. Glad you liked it.

The female choir is the Soprano Ahh patch from Sampletank 2

Very soothing :)

All spacemen spinning the black circle will appreciate this track.

With eyes closed down here where gravity rules, I might as well be floating, weightless, out there.

Cheers :tu:

very nice floater man, I like how the heavier stab has a cool bouncing echo, not unlike something eno would do. the subtle note changes kept it engaging without losing the atmospheric theme, perfect for lights out in the big chair. interesting about the graphic, I was shining a flashlight at cd's and taking closeup photos of the reflections and it appears very similar to that very effect.
good stuff

Thanks very much for the listen, and the comments, layzer. Glad you liked it. I never dreamed that I'd be doing movie work

It's not "mastered" as such, but I did put Satin and a couple of EQs on the master bus here. I think that this softer style of music benefits from a more "open/transparent" processing sequence. The compressor/limiter combo doesn't seem to bring much to the ambient party, imho.

Listening to this, I couldn't help but think of the opening to Michael Moorcock's The Black Corridor -
Space is infinite, it is dark
Space is neutral, it is cold
Stars occupy minute areas of space... &tc

Hi Daniel,

Glad you liked it :D

This was the first time I attempted a project like this and my method was possibly a little unconventional.

After deciding which painting was my favourite, and taking the decision to make a musical accompaniment, I spent about 5 minutes looking at the image, to become familiar with it. Then I put it out of my mind. I think that was in December.

In mid-February I started work on the music, but I didn't refer to the painting again until the track was complete and posted on SoundCloud, so the composition process was driven by my memory and original impressions of that picture. I think it worked itself out quite well.

I'll post your master of this on SoundCloud tomorrow evening

Great track Tim! Love the mixture of the stabbing synth and the choirs...
Such a wonderful listen after a long week as I chill out after dinner.
The space in this is great...
Well done!

If you had seen the painting in natura I am convinced you´d spend more than 5 min ;-)
