Hi Norbz,

thought a while about your "prize" question, I think it is kind of difficult cause it is kind of many different things in one: bundle of kontakt libraries, utility (midi pattern), composition aid.....

One idea: maybe a cheaper (49,00 € ?) "starter" package with only the main instrument upgradeable to the whole package or with possibility to buy the other instruments as "Extensions" ?

If it sounds and plays like it looks it will be worth the 149 regular estimated prize but on the other hand thats lot of money as entry point (you can get for example the whole daw waveform - former tracktion - including top synths and samplers and mastering package for that money, or the up to date synths/workstations avenger and rapid in that region). So just as a suggestion.

Wow, website looks great.
I like Tatanka's idea about incremental pricing/packaging, but I don't know if it would be worth it to break it all down into different sizes/prices.
I'm looking forward to trying out some custom samples in it.
I don't know if it would make sense to make a naked (no samples) version available at a reduced price.

Post

^ I fully appreciate the feedback and critiques please keep them coming if anyone else wants to throw in, there is no right/wrong answer I'm just curious how end users feel.

Not just about this price, because I do understand $150 is still $150, however looking around at the various packages out there I'm seeing $600, $1200, and $2500 for Kontakt libraries as well (I understand overhead etc. and not comparing directly to our package). I still think on the grand scheme we're on the lower end of the spectrum and offer a lot of value however I know some people won't buy it it's out of their usual budget for something like this.

Over time I may want to try to partition the package however I doubt it, the full package feels good to have and covers a lot of needs at once.

I would like it to sit among the premium libraries but still sell it for less than most and with more flexibility. I know I can't compete with a 30gig orchestral library that was recorded in a beautiful hall with 342 mic's and was worked on for 13yrs, but I do think we've hit our own niche with this and offer things those libraries won't (being open, taking in submissions from people to sell their vivid made instruments as expansions, covering most things at once in one library instead of dripping or rehashing content in the future through new skins/bloat/etc just to keep products coming over time - I'd rather this be a staple expandable must have that probably won't be versioned).

^ Again these are just loose thoughts as I go over the pricing setup in my head again and how I got there. Our previous bundle was $100 and it sold quite well, our bigger sample packs go for $129 they do well too so I think for the amount of stuff people get and as time goes on with users making stuff and showing what they can do with it - it will reach said staple status (or this is all a cool jam at the wall attempt and I'll have a rude awakening as it sells 80 units and dies, lol, we'll see).

Next Youtube vid being made now going over the modules officially (will be a set of 8 or so, first one going over them all briefly and the main module in detail, then each module will have its own quick power video).

I buy a lot of Kontakt and Sample Libraries but usually my budget is not that great. However, if I really like something, I might stretch to say EUR 75 and pay it off over a week or two.

It might seem like I pulled that figure out of thin air but I just know from experience how far I'm prepared to go these days.

EUR 75 is a good number imho. If you make it too expensive, hardly anyone will buy it. If you make it too cheap, people might not appreciate it as much. EUR 75 seems like a good middle ground.

For European Customers, we would like to know if your Payment System will 'swallow' the Tax? If you don't, then the cost of the Product, plus the VAT (so called) can put the overall price out of reach for a lot of people.

There's a reason why a lot of Companies are having more or less permanent sales these days. No matter what the Politicians say, people are still poor in their pockets but we do like to treat ourselves if we can etc.

The VAT question is a biggie for Europeans. I'd be looking at 23% VAT. Others, maybe more. That's a lot extra.

If you can't set up your Payment System to take the hit on the Tax, then please sell your Products via Third Party resellers like Audiodeluxe. There's no VAT at Audiodeluxe.

Just some (not so) random thoughts. :)
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Stop giving away your $150 stuff for free for every beggar crossing this thread if you want to be taken serious! Just a direct advice in my usual harsh tone so my apologize for that beforehand. :hihi:
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Post

^ Lol - Giveaways are a part of the marketing and it has worked well - 40 ppl active on popular forums getting their hands on my stuff because they want it is good karma and hopefully that spreads the word a bit and gives it some cred among users.. I'm ok with the 40 x $150 in exchange for that.

The VAT tax is a bitch in all eco-systems, not something a processor swallows, not sure how AudioDeluxe is bypassing it but someone has to pay for it, either now or later. If you visit the site and click on the BUY NOW button, the following page/checkout should show if you are being charged VAT, I do believe it's there with our network unfort but feel free to check.

Hi Norbz,

just one more thought about the prize, I have nearly no experience in the kind of music you are making and which is your main target group, but just lately ran into a company I think which directly is a competitor to your stuff: bigwerks (hope I am right with my classification of music style 8) ).

Their prize policy seems to fit directly into what Aloysius is saying (75 €). I have demoed all their products (maybe another idea, I think that is really a fair think when you can try out the product with just small sample package) and deleted them all again after trying out cause it did not sound bad but what I like from the sounds I already had (kontakt factory, sampletank, kontakt free libs) and the genre specific stuff I dont need.

Compared to this really simple "romplers" (hope they wont kill me for that 8) ) I think vivid will have to offer a lot more, but will your target group pay that much more that its worth ?

As usual just a suggestion, I am glad I dont have to think honestly about such things in case of music cause I dont have a living out of it in the end....

Post

^ Thanks for showing me that - yeah I'm seeing the guys in my niches and I do see the pricing differences, we'll see where we end up.

Here's the official first vid (probably 8 to come, this one is 52min, others will be <10).

Well done video; great explanation and presentation.

^ Thank you kindly, I know it looks/sounds nonchalant but it took a lot out of me :).

The rest of the videos should be up tomorrow/Monday (simple sound demo's basically compared to this one just to showcase the sounds a bit, not much talking..).
