Find an always on OD pedal to your liking. After trying a ts9, I'm more happy with an EHX Glove probably because it bleeds non or less of the clean signal.
You'll likely send a bit more compressed signal to the soundcard cause of the drive, so like an amp you'll be hitting the soundcard harder but ofcourse without clipping.
After liking this approach, I've bought more od/distortion pedals specifically to be used with a clean amp. Getting all the drive analog and leaving the rest to the computer (mainly eq and cab. sim.) to me is the best of both worlds for silent recording.

just in case u didnt know
an electric Guitar is not "line level" so don't plug it directly in your audio interface unles the input says "Hi-Z"
