Is there a vst instrument that specializes in noise sounds?
For like effects, weird sweeps, weird sounds etc.

Offtopic but... it always surprises me how something i'd consider as trivial as noise differs from synth to synth. On some synths, it sounds very artificial, on some very natural, "musical". I don't know if it's down to the frequency spectrum, or something else.

I don't know any pure noise synth though. But, what i know is that the noise generator in Waldorf Largo simply sounds fantastic. You can set it to white, pink, and brown noise AFAIK.

I'm not 100% sure but I think ArcSyn has more noise types than any other synth I know. Plus, the synth itself has one of the most unique sounds out there. Download the demo and check it out. If I'm not mistaken there are at least 5 or 6 different noise types if not more.

There is actually some weird hardware for creating drones, but I do not know any specialised VSTs.

A good software option would be to use any versatile synth that (a) has many froms of noise available and (b) many filters and eq to sculpt it, plus decent delay and reverb.

Basically all of them can do that... but even noise sounds different from different synths.

Nusoft's Noisetar from last years kvr dev challenge. But I am not sure if it comes with pink noise.

Diversion may be well suited for those types of sounds. Each of the four oscs has different types of noise and each its own filter.

Zebra would be good too (as I'm sure many others).

Bazille has white and pink noise sources... however, one can make an endless array of various noises with all the audio rate modulations. It is excellent for mechanical sounds like whirring machines, radio static, crackles, engines, geiger counters, etc. etc.

Yeah, didn't think of Bazille. I'll 2nd this one if you're willing to spend a little time learning the synth.

Serum has a large selection of noises (which are in fact long looped samples) and they are great. I wouldn't buy it for this sole purpose, though

Perhaps a leftfield suggestion, but Drumatic 4 is great for noise effects. Loads of different types of noise that can be swept, filtered, layered etc. The usual suspects like white and pink are possible, but there are also loads of noise spectra derived from real and synthetic sources like claps, hi-hats, a cymbal generator etc. Some of the sources can sound a bit 'loopy' unfortunately, but it's a great tool for noise textures either way - especially as you can layer 2 sources with different envelopes in-synth.

I seem to remember a synth from years ago, free I think called `Chimera` or something simlar that seemed to use noise as its sound source. It had qiute a unique sound to it. Might be worth hunting on the netfor. Cheers Glyn.

Found it first hunt.

You might want to demo Air music technology The Riser. It has a noise oscillator.
Play it by ear

Massive is also good for noise stuff too

Falcon has a dedicated noise oscillator with plenty of normal and exotic noises, also Halion 6 has a large collection of noises in the wavetable oscillator.
