Good idea... done!murnau wrote:You should consider to add "Mac/Logic only" in the topic, could spare our & your time.Hemmick Reef wrote:resynthesis wrote:What about the Dead Duck JX10? That's a re-compiled version of the MDA JX10 which, maybe, is related to the Maxim-produced Steinberg VST.
That's interesting but not for Mac & Logic
Looking for a free synth with the sound and simplicity of Steinbergs JX16 (MAC/Logic Pro X)?

Playing around a bit with the Steinberg one ATM. Seriously, considering this thing is from 2001 (i think) it doesn't sound too bad at all. Only 2 oscillators though, with (obviously) fixed waveforms, saw for osc 1, and square for osc 2, and, no fancy stuff like unison, more than 1 LFO, or a mod envelope either. Still, for that time, i'm surprised that it has a pretty decent filter, and the osc's don't sound bad too.

Is it based on any particular synth?

I think the original is the JX10, from MDA. It is still available, as AU too, but it is GUI less and only 26-bit, AFAIK, so, no way to run it in Logic Pro X.

I meant that i tried the Steinberg JX16 you were asking for in the OP. I just read a bit about the JX10 it obviously emulates, or is based on, and people seem to suggest that Roland JX-8P would be at least similar, so, i'd think the PG-8X might be your best bet. Not sure if it's available as AU though, doesn't look like it... https://sites.google.com/site/mlvst0/Hemmick Reef wrote:Is it based on any particular synth?

Up till Waveform came out it was available from Tracktion as one of their 'Microsynths'
but they have removed it from sale and now it's just bundled with Waveform (and not available for use in other hosts, which it was before)

Pretty sure Retro Synth, included in Logic Pro X, will cover much of this territory just fine... not so much a JX8P, but a lot of sounds in those demos come within it's range.
