The real interesting thing will be if their version of Asio guard/Logics CPU reducing trick works.

That looks like an AMAZING update if it all works- downloading now!!!

Ya, sounds great. Will update when I'm back home, thanks for the heads up.

Great update! Always love their .5 updates. Such a great value. The mixer undo is #1 for me.

Post

I've been trying it out for the last hour or so and the global undo/redo works flawlessly in S1 itself and all the plugins I've tried (if the changes are made with a keyboard or a mouse, but not when the parameters are moved with a MIDI controller). And even if you resize and position the History and Performance Monitor windows in your template they will retain that size and position when you make a new file from it. That was one of those small things about S1 that irked me for a very long time, cause it seemed so easy to fix...

I will have to look into it more closely, maybe I'm missing something, but so far Dropout protection seems pretty much useless. If set to above anything but Low and "Enable low latency monitoring for instruments" is checked, CPU meter gets slammed at 100% and switching between tracks stops the sound for a moment. And most importantly, VST instruments cannot be played at all. But when "Enable low..." is not checked, the CPU utilisation, according to the meter, actually seems lower for about 15-20%. But I still get dropouts in more complex parts of a song if Device block size is set lower than 512 samples (~14ms input latency on my crappy soundcard). So, on my setup at least, no sign of "smashing latency" whatsoever. But it would be interesting to see how things work on more powerful computers (especially 6-and-more-core Ryzens) and with soundcards better than mine.

Wow, just wow. After the update my CPU meter in S1 dropped from 85% to 51%; I guess due to better core scaling. My CPU0 (first core) is no longer at almost 100% while the others are pretty much snoozing. I got a 6850K (6 cores, 3.6 GHz), 64 GB RAM and a RME Babyface Pro. Thank you Presonus. <3

Yeah the cpu jumps are gone for me. Feels snappier. Love it so far. Gotta do more testing. I can say bye to reason 9.

Using a 4-core i7, 3.4gHz (8-core HT), and getting better than usual cpu playback results from big/complex mixes and Kontakt instruments (in general) at maximum dropout protection.

Set at minimum dropout protection.. total mess. Nothing sounds right.. not even single vst instruments.

So, at maximum setting.. it pushes my plug-in delay up a lot (57.9ms), but.. absolutely no crackling at 100% cpu. Used to crackle a LOT before this latest update.. and no dropouts at all at 100%. Very smooth.

No issues playing VST instruments or switching between tracks at this setting.

Pretty tricky.. works for me. :D

It might not be perfect yet but at least Presonus is working on that matter. Now with the feedback of a big user base they can polish it to perfection. :)

Me too! yay! I mean Praise The Lord and Hallelujah!
Finally! Studio One is CPU effective. I will definitely be keeping the 3.5 installer saved permanently - just in case future updates mess up the CPU efficiency. I'd rather have better CPU utilization than more features. In my case, my new-ish i7 7700 HQ was still struggling with high latency. I only have a PreSonus 44VSL which is not a 'fast' USB audio interface, but this S1 update has definitely made it much more usable.

Finally! A great work flow AND decent CPU balancing. Thank you PreSonus. In the immortal words of Tiny Tim: "God bless us, every one."
Thanks & God Bless,
Bro. Charles

Thanks, OP, but that "code" is too hard to read. Here's a link to the release notes in PDF format:

And they said bitching on KVR is pointless. :hihi:
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG
