Postby Ample Sound; Thu Jun 15, 2017 7:30 pm Ample Sound Releases Guitar Riffer for free(v2.5 update)

Ample Sound has released free updates of version 2.5 for all nine of its virtual guitars.

The updates include a new module, Riffer, a riff generator featuring MIDI edit of stringed instruments, multiple formats conversion, automatic riff creation, etc. The initial update includes 500 classic riffs. The Guitar Riffer has improved vastly based on Bass Riffer, adding Strum and Multi-Measures features.

String Roll – original notation of stringed instrument
Image
Riffer uses the notation invented by Ample Sound – String Roll. Traditional tab can only write quantized MIDI. It only records fingering without directly showing important information such as pitch, velocity and so on. While a Piano Roll can show MIDI in good detail, it cannot avoid using keyswitches and MIDI controller for fingering, articulation, expression of stringed instruments, resulting in messy notation.

String Roll preserves the composing details of MIDI while it can clearly show fingering, articulation, expression, and even noise in string performances. Every note has 8 attributes - pitch, velocity, length, off velocity, articulation, legato, vibrato and bend, with which the user can make a delicate lick.

The line represents guitar string. Text on the notes represents pitch, Color represents velocity, and length represents duration. Four independent attributes - articulation, legato, vibrato, bend - are shown as icons above. Additionally, any noise including fret buzz, finger slapping or any other special performing skills could be written on the FX-line, which is below the guitar strings.

Information shown on the notes can be changed to various parameters such as pitch, fret, pitch + fret, velocity, duration, off velocity.

The user can easily use the graphic curve above to create a bend. Pitch wheel messages generated by this can also be used for bend in other virtual instruments.

Swing, Velocity Humanization, Velocity Proportion and other real-time parameters can give controllable humanization for quantized MIDI notes.

Strum Feature
Image
Strum Note can control each note in the chord, and other 8 properties including Chord Root, Chord Type, Chord Position, Articulation, Legato, Strum Time, Velocity, Strum Mode. The change of Strum Note will be applied to all notes in the chord. Strummer could make strum quickly even for live play in real time, but Riffer can realize almost all articulations in real playing and conveniently play solo and arpeggio between the strums.

Dice - Automatic Composing
Image
Select the Density of notes, key, chord, range of velocity, click the dice and a main riff will be created. It is not simply a random algorithm, it summarizes the rules of scale and groove of different styles through analyzing a great collection of music scores.

The Guitar Dice uses different logic from the one in Bass Riffer.

Multiple Formats Conversion
Users can write and compose in Riffer, then directly drag the riff to a MIDI track. Every fingering, articulation, and expression will be automatically converted to MIDI keyswitch and controller. Riffer humanizations can also be included in MIDI.

The user can also import their own MIDI files and tabs into Riffer without any loss (fromtab to riff).
The Guitar Riffer made a substantial upgrade in the accuracy of format conversion, reproduction of details, compatibility and so on.

Other news in 2.5 Update:
Add Half Mute sample group in Ample Metal Eclipse library, Users need to install the full installer to upgrade.
New Tab Player UI, adding Tab to Riff feature.
Add 15 chord types in Strummer.

Update Celebration Event
All nine Ample Guitars are 20% off until July 16th for both single products and bundles.

Thank you Ample !! trying it out now.
It would be good to export the Riff name instead of just temp.mid as you may need more of the same style but can't remember where you found it:
Fusion05_Nylon_Fill13_A_8-4_125.mid

"click the dice and a main riff will be created"

This is a dream come true for me.

Thankyou so much. :hyper:

Well, this was a nice surprise.

Been having a play with my 3 AS guitars. All well thought through and I got the hang of it in a few minutes, which is unusual for me!

Good stuff. Cheers.

Excellent update, congratulations Ample Sound.
And thank you very much for the free upgrade for existing customers!

I have a question regarding the "dice" feature:
when randomizing the riff pattern, "FX" and "Str" are not affected by the dice.
Why this limitation?

Thanks CipheredDesigns, we have not thought about FX notes in the dice, but you will get str notes if you select Strum 1 or Strum 2 in the Dice options.

I'm absolutely loving the Riffer! It's a huge time saver, very inspirational What I would like to see is an option to lasso several notes to drag them to a different string or to adjust velocity of several notes at the same time. Also I'd like to have the possibility to copy several bars from the Tab window to the Riffer Maybe in a future update?

I was also coming to here to suggest the ability to select/edit multiple notes and the ability to drag notes to a different string.

That is not a simple work. in another system, perhaps it is not very hard to do, but on riffer, there are many rules of real guitar e.g. only one note can be played at the same time on the one string, and a lot of articulations, legatos... ...
We knew that is an important feature but we have to take a lot of time to make multi-edit.

I really like the feature so far. My only qualm with it though (I'm using Metal Eclipse II), is that the midi keys for toggling the Riffer and the Dice don't work for me.

Hi SSgtPieGuy, please turn the sixth turner on AME to D, all of riffs will work. the only reason is that AME uses a different tune C G C F A D, the other guitars are E A D G B E.

great update. I notice that dice can do with AME very nice distortion guitar and mix of mute and sustain. strum1 choose as style. scale set to power and Vel +/- set to 50. this do the switch between mute and sustain because AME do this with velocity switch. the dice scale power sound with distortion better as the 4 power chord types the riffer have in the str line. when choose in str line pow1 it select note on lowest string and 2. string. only power 3 have no lowest string, but output only 2 notes. dice output no note on first string and then notes on above 3 strings

Edit: Density i set to 11 in dice

and i think it is usefull when the riffer can output to the strummer, or use the strummer transpose keys to transpose the key in riffer and use upto 8 riffer sequences same way strummer do

Is it possible to record midi data live into the riffer? I ask because I think the layout, with all articulations clearly visible, would make for faster fine tuning of midi performances. It would be a huge step up from any generic DAW piano roll for sure.

Not sure if this is a bug or by design:

When importing MIDI to riffer, it'll only give me the first measure. I tried testing this numerous times by dragging midi from riffer to my DAW's timeline, and then dragging back into riffer.
