How to record two instruments for final 5.1 version...

Hello; I'm eng sound engineer; I just work with boom or lavalier...

My principal want those two-instruments concert with 5.1
Is it any job for me?
Should I do something special if he want it for 5.1 movie?

I imagine that I just record strings in mono, then postproduction is place to do this 5.1 job.

Am I right?

I think the idea is you also do the recording with some ambient mikes.
