Hello!! Would like to know please about a fairly standard multitrack audio recording program available in the free world.
I am an extremely happy and grateful paid-for Mulab user although there is no time based transport as such in there.
I could do a search although I would like to weed out the buggy ones (LMMS?) or the overly complex ones (Reaper?).
Is there anything available in the realms of Acid back in the days?
So far I have under my radar multitrack studio lite (not so freeware) or Audacity.
Any other suggestions welcome!
Many thanks,

I'd definitely give Reaper a go - Even though it can come across as complex, if you just need it as a simple audio multitrack recorder you can ignore loads of the features/menus etc.yul wrote:overly complex ones (Reaper?).

When I first discovered Reaper, my video editor of choice was Sony Vegas which is pretty much just Acid but with additional video tracks, and I found the introduction to Reaper with my learnt Vegas work-flow to be completely seamless. I'm pretty sure all the keyboard shortcuts I needed (splitting audio, moving around the timeline) were identical
So yeah, give the trial of Reaper a go, I think you'll find it real similar to Acid.

Tracktion T5 maybe? It is 100% free.
Simplest thing to use I've seen is Hindenburg Journalist, but it is not cheap.
You can buy "Movie Studio 13 Platinum Suite" bundle that has Acid 10 (plus Sound Forge and Vegas) on Steam Store, it is discounted now:
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/71779/
(But it requires the Steam app to use.)

If you just need the recording capabilities, check Waves Tracks Live. Its free, based on Ardour and you just need an Account to download it, no License stuff or anything: http://www.waves.com/mixers-racks/tracks-live & http://www.waves.com/downloads/tracks-live

Apart from the ones already mentioned...
Studio One Prime? It doesn't support external VST, but might work if you only need to record audio.
