a pro, huh? it sounds worse. no dynamic range, lots of pumping in the compression and badly clipped. the revised and wip sound way better IMHO :borg:
Which part do you find clipping? Can't really tell.
hello.

the entire track is clipping almost all the way through. can you hear all the crackling?
Are you talking about the wobbles? They are suppose to clip.

Edit: I just uploaded the revised Pro Mix. Check it out and let me know if there's still any clipping.

Post

Okay I just pointed out all these issues mentioned here to my mixing engineer. It turns out that the snare was over compressed and dominating the waveform. I have added the link to the 2nd revision of the pro mix and hopefully the clipping and dynamic range issue has been addressed.

Just added the mastered version of the track. Thanks for all the feedback!

ok heres the thing. every sound in a track should not be as loud as possible. its like
painting... if you mix all colors together, you get black. sounds need to be mixed
with a frequency range, volume and pan so they dont step all over each other
making things sound like a big sonic blur.

clipping does not necessarily mean theres crackling. it can also mean it is over brickwall
limited. like using that stupid sausage fattner thing.

this mastered version is just too cluttered with loud noises

i like it better. it breathes. it has more dynamics, natural sounding.
like it isnt trying to burst at the seams. there will always be people
that dont agree, so take all i say with a grain.

Cool thanks! What should I tell my mastering engineer that the track is too compressed?

well, compression is good when used in moderation, but brickwall limiting will squash the
life out of a track as it pushes all the levels, even the sounds that should be low in volume
up with the loud sounds..... so yeah, back off the sausage fattner brickwall limiter thing. :tu:

Wow that looks really ugly!

Just pass the info to my mastering engineer and here's the revision. How does it sound now?

You've been SUPER helpful btw. Not just with this track but everything I've done in the past. You're the best brother!

glad to help, man. ok so i would like to tell you it is finished and polished
but i would be lying. the squashed issue is out of the way but now theres
the matter of frequency spectrum balance. Anyone with quality, wide freq
response phones will hear too much high freq energy at around 5khz-10khz
fixing that is just a matter of toning those freq's down with a parametric eq
on the master. here is a graphic representation of this latest master.
that hump at 5-10khz needs to be evened out. :tu:

Thanks again!

Here's the revised Master with attenuation to the 5 - 10Khz range. If this doesn't fix it then there's an issue with the mix itself.

https://soundcloud.com/kyrptomusic/brad ... db/s-KNskz

What program/plugin are you using for that graph btw?

Post

hmmmm not hearing/seeing the attenuation,

here is the spec analyzer. grab it and stick it on your master
and see if you see what i see....
https://sevenphases.wordpress.com/spectrum-analyzer/

and here is a good video tutorial for using it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmY5u4dvvmM

good luck. and may the force be with you!

Okay I'm going back to the mix and address the root of the problem. Much thanks!

Post

Alright I went back and attempted to fix all the issues that was addressed in this thread. Here's the new revised version of the Master.

Hopefully got it right this time.
