All really need to make a female voice sound male or vice-versa is a Pitch Shifter Plugin. If you want a female voice pitch it up and if you want a male voice pitch it down a little. And if you want chipmunk pitch it all the way up till it don't go up anymore. If you want Cyborg pitch it all the way down to the ground. There you go it's as simple as that. 8)

i would recommend you to download the unrestricted DEMO of REAPER

http://reaper.fm/

it's only a 3mb download.

try the pitch shift / time stretch algo included which is Elastic Pro 2

you can do this either by changing the pitch of the wav file properties OR
use the pitchshifter plug included which allows you to do harmonizations !

AWESOME QUALITY !

take your time...you'll find the right algo (elastic/elastic2 Pro,soloist, efficient)for the job.

also try this daw...i believe SONAR has better midi options (i don't use sonar)
but nothing beats REAPER on audio editing and mixing...IMHO.

i don't think JUSTIN (reapers creator) would mind if you test his baby for a little Vocal Distortion.

cheers !
whooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

Sure, in some cases,
"pitch shifter" may be useful to get female voice,
but as a side effect, key of song will be changed.

If vocal track was already recorded,
and/or you want to keep song in same key,
"formant shifter" is useful option, IMO.

Dont forget to try the demo of ARTICULATOR Vocal Formant and Amplitude Modeler in the AVOX 2 bundle.

Supposedly allows you to copy formant from one source to another.

Unfortunately, as many have observed, software is currently incapable of quality male to female conversion. A vastly better strategy is FRET (=Female-Retardation Emulation + Transposition). In other words, doing an immaculate impression of a slowed down female then speeding it up...

Try Toneboosters voicepitcher - sound quality of this algorithm is far beyond what most generic pitch shifters do, as it is specfically designed for vocals:

Just get a woman to sing it... save yourself the hassle and sub-par results.

Failing that... you could always try gender reassignment surgery. :P

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Akai VIP = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

What would possess you to dig up a nearly 9 year old thread and take it up like it was started yesterday ? I've never understood that....oh well whatever.... :?

This happens so old threads don't die.

Alone.

I personally like Trax from Ircam... it's expensive but seems to do the trick among other things! :)

It's a nice day for a melody.

+1 djeroen re ToneBoosters VoicePitcher!!! I assumed you were mad (& worse!) to suggest just another nasty / grainy / quantizing / metallic-edged pitch + formant-shifter... But WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K ??! That is by far the best I've EVER heard. It's seriously jangled my sensibilities. Elastique-pro should just go and 'ping' itself into a hole!

I'm not saying it's 100% artifact free but it is SHOCKINGLY close, especially under-cover of reverb. Strangely, it's breath between phrases that suffers most - occurs to me that you could easily paste breath in from some real girlie!

Glad I persevered with their site: Flash failed as always & I didn't appreciate having to download 66.5MB for a 1.75MB plugin (using 2g phone data) but whatever.

Yeah, I'm quite shocked because this transgender thing has quite obsessed me; thanks for sticking to your software guns djeroen!

Anything that has the Super VP algorithm can do the job very well. I think that the IRCAM TS audio editor also does that (maybe without so much tweaking options).

if you do the pitch shift, also maybe try something like gvst gsnap. you could automate the pitch shift to vary, and pump it through gsnap to keep it in key.
