Hello there,
I've been looking for a particular snare sound that has been used many times during the early 90s. Here are few examples:

I have tones of drum machine samples but for some reason couldn't find this particular snare sample. Anyone here knows which drum machine is it from?
Thanks!

Maybe they sampled it...
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? ShawnG

Sampled claps, the question is from what. This thread suggests Parliament Funkadelic songs or Kung Fu movie punches: viewtopic.php?f=100&t=370462

New Jack Swing often had those snares - it was kind a way of progressing from the Clyde Stubblefield samples on the like of BBD's "Poison".
I love the "clap in a can" like snares of the latter day swing period. Artists like Chuckii Booker and Cherelle (On "Love Me Tonight", 1991) and Alexander O'Neil (on "Loves Makes No Sense", 1993) used them as well.
Wish I knew how to make them a I dabble into New Jack myself.
I'm thinking that since many acts used the exact same sound, preferably Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis who produced all the acts on the now defunct Tabu label which had both O'Neil and Cherrelle in their artist roster. But then again, beither Portrait or Hi-Five had Jam & Lewis behind the console. It might be a preset on some 90s Rompler but I have no idea which one.
I used to believe that all those NJS orchestra hits were sampled from old records. Imagine my surprise when I learned that they were pretty much all presets on various Roland instruments. Many of those were gathered together in the (brilliant) XV50 module from the early 00s.

...as far as I remember, the Alesis SR16 was very popular for New Jack Swing. You may find such snares in the respective folder in this pack (maybe pitch them and process them a little). You'll also find similar snares from rompler synths and digital drum machines in this pack, too...

Not forgetting the Korg M1. The factory drum kits were used a lot.
