I've scoured the web (somewhat) and can't find VST Transit users. Not even from within the app. Even a search here for VST Transit is fruitless. I'm beyond ready to try it out. Anyone wanna sync with me (mistergibson)?

VST Transit's cool, but I like VST Connect. What kind of music do you like? Anything like what I have here;

Well, IMHO, it's the wrong idea with the wrong kind of motivation. The essential point is to drive subscription sales of transit premium for heavy users. The thing is, I'm not sure that there's as much market for this thing as Steinberg imagines. They paint this rosy picture of an international consortium of cubase users who want to work with each other, but, as I'm sure anyone who has ever tried to collaborate knows, it's hard enough to find people to collaborate with that you can agree on artistic goals. To throw technical requirements into the mix, i.e., both users must have recent version of cubase, severely narrows your chances of finding collaborators.

Further, for any advantages that it might offer, in typical Steinberg fashion, it's awfully damned clunky!

I've not even set it up TBH. I collaborate with some friends locally and not a one uses Cubase. I collaborate with a different small group of friends internationally and we all use completely different setups. Some don't even use a DAW at all. I think that they've overstated the issues with stems. Stems are universal and independent of technology in most senses.

The free account hardly seems that useful with a 1.5 gig limit. Seriously? That's worse than starter ink jet cartridges.

I can't be the only up to date user. Seems you are too. Let's get you setup too. Can't hurt to try (After you've cloned your OS drive). Why not see if they've made it so we can make use of what we've bought?

I tried it and went back to putting projects on dropbox. It doesn't do the I want, and it does a bunch of things I don't want. The synching is weird. The inability to work on the other guys tracks is silly. The tempo problems ... etc.. etc.. And like most things like this, I think the life of product will be terribly short.

So first, I appreciate your positivity, seriously, I do. My comment was referring to how limited it is to limit one's collaboration partners to just those using the latests versions of a single DAW.

That said, I'm satisfied with the avenues that I have at the moment for finding collaboration partners. That's part of my point really, I don't look for people who use the same DAW necessarily, and, in practice, they seldom do. I think that's probably the least important criterion for finding other people to work with.

The last thing that I want to encounter is that I spend time investing in some sharing mechanism only to find out that I have to pay for it.

I'm not sure I understand. It's not like VST Transit/Connect users can't use other programs during a session. From what I do understand, VST Connect lets me sync with anyone running the free VST Connect Performer app. If they can transmit audio or MIDI, there's keeping them from using their other gear and software. Then it's a small step to syncing with say, a Floops user. I see the technology as a potential bridge to sync all DAWs. Not just one. But I'll never know until I make a connection.

Done plenty of collabs through mail big file or the like.

VST Connect doesn't require the other user to purchase anything as long as they have an ASIO soundcard, IIRC. They don't even need a DAW. It's more a remote recording app that let's you record artists from all over the globe without flying them in. The host version can be upgraded, adds mostly MIDI features, IIRC. It's cool for collabs as you can interact through sound and vid during the recording.

The title of the thread is about VST Transit and all my comments are about that technology specifically. I haven't made any comments at all about VST Connect.

I'm about to give it a go with someone I'm already collaborating with who just got Cubase 9 Pro. I have tried to mess around with VST Connect and it really jacked up my project.

Is Anyone Here Using VST Transit?
