Probably not what the OP wanted.. but I couldn't help myself.

Bargain! Only 73 cents each if we can arrange a KVR group buy. Cheaper than any of the synths mentioned so farV0RT3X wrote:Probably not what the OP wanted.. but I couldn't help myself.

Can you carefully guide me towards some oscillating bacon? Where are these bacon oscillators?Sampleconstruct wrote:99.999% of the people listening to electronic music couldn't tell the difference between an aliased or triple-oversampled-super-duper-with-bacon-and-cheese-oscillator, and the few nerds that could spot the difference only listen to their own noodling anyway.

Well, that's one thing. Another is that after all the FX, mix and mastering all the oscillators eventually end up the same. All this processing has much more significant impact on sound than base oscillator.sqigls wrote:what i was gonna say, only funnier ...and with baconSampleconstruct wrote:99.999% of the people listening to electronic music couldn't tell the difference between an aliased or triple-oversampled-super-duper-with-bacon-and-cheese-oscillator, and the few nerds that could spot the difference only listen to their own noodling anyway.

100ppm error? Are you friggin kidding me? Cheap knock-off silicon technology.V0RT3X wrote:Probably not what the OP wanted.. but I couldn't help myself.

You want one of these: http://www.tfc.co.uk/products.php?Categ ... scillators
Accept no substitute (unless it's below 0.005ppm). These are a tad more expensive than the IDT ones, but you will at least be able to operate your own cellphone network. Just remember to keep it nice and warm.

That is one possible form of deconstructing/constructing a signal, it is the most common but there are others. Additive Synthesis/Fourier Transforms still will lose information! I'm referring to infinite detail beyond the usual geometric waves (usually saw, square, tri, ramp). Please watch this and do the same with your oscillator waveform in your daw, compare the two:Taurus wrote:What are non geometric Waveforms? All Waves can you construct with adding pure sine waves.

I enjoyed that.. maybe 3D Fractal Wavetable oscillators with infinite harmonic structures could be mathematically generated in the future. You could scan into infinity to find the perfect sound for your track. Maybe not best quality but infnite sonic scope.
This must be happening already right ? (Though I wonder how you would narrow the maths to a periodic usable audio output)

You keep iterating the chaotic/fractal function until you start generating sub-sample detail.Synthman2000 wrote:This must be happening already right ? (Though I wonder how you would narrow the maths to a periodic usable audio output)
The tricky bit is finding anything interesting in the waveform. I'm going to bet that most of those chaotic waveforms are just going to sound like noisy saws. And, unless you build in some way of modifying the fractal function in real time based on some parameter other than pitch or velocity, most will be about as interesting as a dialtone.
The whole fractal oscillator thing looks good on paper but doesn't seem to be attacking a problem anyone really has. Tone2 Electra has 'fractal oscillators' but they are mainly usable as noise/aleatoric-sound generators.

Thanks for the insights Gamma-UT. Maybe not as interesting as it appears visually.

I'm not sure if there's any possible way we can call this a vst but hey....... it's digital.....in a sense.

Oscillators count, but probably not as much as the notes you play with them.

This thread is TL;DR - but I would say my award for the cleanest, most alias free oscillators goes to MPowersynth. And to my ears, it sounds flat and a bit cold but hey... still use it for some things.

OP seems to have a history of "great ideas". viewtopic.php?f=33&t=479007&p=6699751#p6699751 I was actually hoping for a dev to chime in, and put an end to this esoteric nonsense. Oh well, maybe in the OP's newly created thread, which is actually the same bla bla bla without any factual base.
