I have a bit of a problem with guitar rig, it just doesnt sound right for funk. Just wondering if Amplitude is in a similar league.
I have an eleven rack and has more bite than GR but at the loss of highs of the guitar signal.
Got a really good DI box but I just cant get anything decent out of guitar rig.
What's the best one on the market for clean shit?

Have you tried no amp sim. Alot of the funk stuff was direct gtr. Maybe just add subtle saturation and a cab IR.
We jumped the fence because it was a fence not be cause the grass was greener.

every amp-sim I've tried for cleans has been disappointing. Seems they all do Metal very well . . .
I'm currently pretty happy with the JC120 or Matchless emulation of the fairly affordable Digitech RP 360 outboard box
best of luck

It's hard to find a bad ampsim, but really good ones can be a challenge. My tastes run towards classic rock and funk (I watched a lot of Sesame Street as a kid in the '70s), so I tend to prefer warmer, softer tones. These work best for that, but should also work well with later styles:
This post mentions some exceptionally authentic -- maybe too authentic? -- sims; I really like MG ("medium gain," based on an old Marshall) on cleaner settings (nice and full!), but the LG (based on Fender specs) is also great.
Ultra 530 from Mercuriall on clean might be a bit soft, depending on the style, but well worth a try.
Emissary from Ignite Amps can be leaner, sharper and funkier.
Boogex also rocks, but I like it better for jazz.
As Scrubbing Monkeys said, a lot of funk was recorded direct, generally through transformers (so you got a bit of subtle saturation and such). Later stuff (the '80s, anyway) also used heavy compression, especially optos -- and lots and lots of EQ.
Good luck!

I too haven't really found one I love and ended up buying a Boss GT-100 and GT-1 as a solution.. If I haddddd to use software it would be overloud th-3, and yes I have tried the helix native.
These are my new favourites.....for DI guitar stuff.

they need to make a wah pedal and I would be even happier..

bx_bassdude is on sale at Plug in Alliance for $39 it sounds really good. I picked it up $14 using my PA voucher!
It is a fender Bassman silverface which is equally good for both guitar and bass. They have a 14 day demo as well.

Vermillion does really nice cleans and is a steal at the price. I also get nice cleans from Creme.
Blue Cat Destructor is a very interesting approach, produces lovely results and is highly tweakable.
They all have demos. Personal taste etc.
