Hi Guys, I work as a web developer so javascript comes more natural to me, but the debugger really interested me because developing scripts so far with the current javascript console has been tedious. could any of you more experienced java guys give me some pointers to get started?

Wait, is this API for Java or JavaScript? The two languages have nothing in common other than their names.

Don't think there's any documentation on it (yet). I asked Bitwig support. They said best way to start is to create a new controller script from the Bitwig Studio help dialog. You can choose between Javascript and Java and it will create an empty project for it.
I read somewhere you have to compile your java code into a *.jar file and rename it to *.extension and put it in the right place.
The controller script APIs are the same of course.
