Eons ago I fell in love with this 32-bit plugin compressor and bought it. Then it became free. No problem. I still love it and use it constantly, but I have to ask. Is there anything out there in 64-bit that matches this?? Am I the only one in the world who really digs this compressor?

I'm a little annoyed with myself because I have dozens of compressors, hardware and software. But man, this one was on my drum bus for a long long time.

Anyone?

Since it's a dbx 165 emulation, I would think Waves dbx 160 would be pretty close...
Still on perpetual sale ;)

Or the sknote C165 compressor which IS a dbx165 emulation!

No, I like it a lot too.

sknote c165 is good on drums, too...preferably in automatic mode and with that nice distorting limiter engaged

I own both and I'd recommend the Waves DBX-160 over the SKnote 165. You can get them both for nearly the same price if you catch the Waves version on one of it's nearly perpetual sales, and the SKnote one has some longstanding issues (turn off auto-release mode and it's easy to get the SKnote version to crackle on fast-ish releases). They both do roughly the same thing on drums, which is a cool sound. Never used the DeLaMancha one, but I'd definitely at check out the Waves DBX-160 if the DLM was a 165. You'll probably like it for the same reasons.

Major tom from Stillwell is great. Fully functionnal endless demo and hassle free installation wich is totally worth giving the guy some $. If you use Reaper its already in your js plugin folder but guiless.

I'm a big Dbx160 fan and to me Waves sounds a little bit better but Major tom definetly is great sounding too.

And in case you did'nt know Molot from Vlagd sound is a freebie wich will give you some nice sounds in the Dbx160 ballpark very aggressive compressor. Make sure its in Sigma mode ( Neve 33609 style) instead of Alpha mode ( Fairchild style). Just flip the switch.

Totally agree, actually bought this before I ever used Reaper, total sleeper. I don't have a real 165 to compare it to, but I do have a real dbx 119 and it definitely has the same vibe. Use Feedforward mode, soft knee - off, and click the "star" icon for oversampling. Try it with high-threshold and high ratio, or low threshold and low ratio to make it pump. I prefer the latter.

Thanks for all the responses. I've actually had Molot forever, and it definitely comes closest for me. I've had Major Tom too, but it doesn't quite give me the attack I'm after.

I really hoped to get the Waves DBX, but thanks to their new-fangled installation program I can't. I'm locked into the older V9 plugins which came before they released the DBX. Every time I go to install the newer versions it removes my old plugs and then crashes my main DAW (Reaper). They piss me off...
