Picking up a compilation today which again includes Energy 52's Cafe Del Mar, made me start to think, how much has Kid Paul earned on that track over the years?

As he wrote, performed, produced the track he should be entitled to about 12% royalites per sold disc.

But each of these compilation/mixes have many artists, on average possibly 15

Discogs lists the track on about 850 compilations/mixes

Not all sold well, but some like MoS sold several hundred thousand, so on average assuming each sold 20000

Taking into account inflation, setting the retail sale value of each on average to be €15 (most of the CD's sold in the late 90's when money was more worth).

12% / 15 x 850 x 20000 x €15

So this would mean Kid Paul have cashed in over €2 million (before taxes), on this song.

Dont forget royalties for every play on the radio etc....

Yup, and I believe the track have been used in commercials, movies, which is also a nice little earner.

The track got rejuvenated in the late 90's by ThreeNOne remix and later by a Michael Woods remix.

How is the remixer being renumerated? If not being credited as producer of the new remix, as a one time payment for the remix only?

In case Jason Nevins must be kicing himself all the way to the bank, for that popular Run DMC remix.

Yeah, its usually a one off payment, and usually not that much.
