My latest Song exists in two mix versions. The first version is a mix
I did aiming at a good reproduction on cheap and small speakers.
Also this should have a good sound in a car.

The second mix is done from the scratch (stems) aiming at big Hifi-
reproduction speakers at home. So: If you play this two versions on
your speakers, how do they sound to you?

The two versions are:

1: http://andy-enroe.bplaced.net/22_songs/ ... is_day.mp3

2: http://andy-enroe.bplaced.net/22_songs/ ... _arend.mp3

:?: My Questions are:

--> a. On what type of speakers do you listen (studio monitors,
ghettoblaster, PC-minispeakers, hifi-speakers, size)?

--> b. Which version do you like more?

--> c. Why do you like this version more?

--> d. In your very first impression: What would
you change (arrangement, sound, mix) in
your favourite version even though?

Thanx for your answers!

Can't have a listen on my monitors at the moment but I want to know, do you reference your mixes against released music ? It's amazing how far you can go when you have something to take reference of.
"People are stupid" Gegard Mousasi.

In principle yes. But at a certain point I must trust
my taste and skills, because no song is one to one
exactly comparable to "its" reference. So referencing
is always good, but it's only one part in the game. :) IMO.

I and another audio mixer tried to "make the best" out
of a song - independent of the reference - and
realizing the inner sound imagination. But how does
this sound imagination appear to others? See
my questions a. - d. :?:

Headphones plugged into my laptop.
enroe wrote:b. Which version do you like more?
Version B.
enroe wrote:c. Why do you like this version more?
Because the mix has more brightness and clarity to it.
enroe wrote:d. In your very first impression: What would you change (arrangement, sound, mix) in your favourite version even though?
I'll admit I was a bit sad to find that there were no drums in that mix (at least not to the point I listened). I would've loved hearing what those would have sounded like in it.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

Thank you for answering. Very appreciated! :)

Yes, too bad you didn't listen a little longer: The drums come
in with the chorus.

Right. Note to self: next time, listen to the whole song. :P

I voted B because it's more dynamic and brighter (but lacks a bit of low-end).

Listed on low-budget hifi-speakers and on my cheap JBL monitors. :D

Mhh ... wondering: Those are pretty normal links to
a normal host without anything: No tracking, no adverts,
nothing but the mp3!

Sorry that you can't listen.

The original is sounding far better on my ATCs. The 'arend' version sounds pretty horrid, TBH.

Thank you Hermetech Mastering. The ATC-Monitors have
the reputation of being very analytic and precise - and
they don't have an overemphasis of high frequencies, so
your valuation is exceptionally interesting!

No worries, neither mix is sounding perfect here (the original is a bit muddy, IMO), but it definitely sounds better than the second, which sounds over-processed and bass light to me.

just heard the beginning on my laptop speakers - v2 lacks lowend and sounds too toyish (even with the laptop speakers lacks "lowend")

Thanky you "ppp ...", it's interesting, because many people
listen "only" on laptop speakers or similar small speakers.

Version 2 has more bass at around 40-100 hz. But on small
speakers these frequencies can't be heard - even not their
harmonics.

Version 1 has an emphasis around 120-200 hz in the upper
bass region. These frequencies seem to be effective on most
small speakers.
