I put a new song in my music website called "Contain Yourself". It has synths, electric guitar, and electric bass. Please tell me how you like the song, and how it can be improved, and I will return the favor if you wish (leave me a link). The song is at the top of this link:

Went into the archives. Love the synth bass on this one. Very nice arrangement. The guitars are nicely understated and fit just perfectly. It appears that your older tracks are actually louder than your newer ones. Are you doing something different now? Drums are definitely more pronounced on this track than some of your others. All in all, I think this is one of your best mixes. Everything is just right. I couldn't absolutely picture hearing this on an alternative rock station in my area. Well done all around.

Oh, what synth did you use for the bass?

Anyway, I'm doing a cover album right now, something I've never done before. It's not getting a lot of attention (understandable) so could you give my cover of "Today" a listen? It's on the last page of my thread currently. Thanks.

wagtunes,
Thank you for reviewing my song, I appreciate it! The song starts with Lennar Sylenth, I assume that is the bass synth you are talking about. I used my usual u-he Presswerk compression (though I couldn't tell you much about the settings, because I don't write that down; way too much information, though I write down the preset name; I usually tweak the factory preset). Maybe I need some sort of limiter, because all it takes is one little spike of dB getting close to 0 dB, and that's as high as I go, lest I get some sort of nasty digital overload. I typically add compression on the drums, electric bass, and vocals; I don't usually (though I do sometimes) put compression on the entire mix at once, because I feel it often kills a lot of the dynamics. Some of my electric guitar patches and synth patches have their own built-in compressors. That's not to say I couldn't use some improvement. Someone from a different forum, from North Carolina, liked the song enough that he wanted to re-mix it himself. It took me a lot of work to send him all of the stems through the internet. I think his re-mix was better than mine in some regards, though overall I liked my original mix better.

Like Wags says the bass is very cool. The other sounds are good too. Vocals have nice intent and sound suitably rock like.
Well done! :)

Like the two songs. 3:30 thats a good section there with the arp.
Like also the vocal doubling. Very effective.
I think between 2:00 and 2:40 I feel the song loses some "momentum."
Mixing is good.
Some Love: nice guitar solo. 2:38
Takes a long time to get going tho. Not until 1:20 does a vocal appear.

Congrats on getting a high # ranking on the playlists.

Here's my latest quirky offering:
