Postby heysimo; Fri Nov 17, 2017 7:31 am Getting a K sound alike Calvin Harris' latest funk tunes

Hey guys,

the title should be pretty self explaining ..
I am totally loving Calvin Harris' latest Funk Wav and I was wondering how to get a similar kick sound, referring to the song "Heatstroke" in particular ..
Any inputs?
What samples to start with?
Thanks a lot!

Roland TR 707 or Linn

Yes, definitely on this one!
But this is Rolling .. I was mentioning Heatstroke because it has a more modern kick sound which I really can't relate to a DM in particular !!
Thanks for the input though !!

Ah, sorry for that, were in a hurry and just Googled first thing I saw, wish you could just linked what you needed from the start, it's easier on everyone.

Back on Heartstroke, sounds like a layered acoustic kick, but you can get this thing synthesized too, which might be the best option to really get exactly what you need.

Try demo of this thing, it's really easy to get something fast: http://gudaaudio.com/kickr

that looks cool, thanks a lot! I'll demo it very soon!

regarding Heatstroke, I do think it's a layered acoustic K, too.
If anybody has an input on which sample to use, that's very welcome.
thanks!

You really can't go wrong using majority of acoustic drum kit kick samples out there, IMO this kicks aren't stars of the show at all, think not much attention were even given to them, they just sound "real"/organic enough.

In heartstroke the kick (not only the kick) sounds like an eprom drum machine, most likely an oberheim dmx.

+1. I'd expect "K sounds" in K-Pop only
