Thanks to the November sale I have the option to upgrade my Kontakt Player to Kontakt Full for $125 and I'm wondering if it's worth it. I am not at all interested in Komplete, so if I bought Kontakt it would only be for third-party libraries that require the full version. Right now I don't have any of them (and only a few of them are even on my radar) so I'm wondering what the best of the best third-party libraries that require the full version of Kontakt are. I'd like to check them out before the sale ends to decide if I should upgrade or not.

It really depends on what kind of music you plan to make. Cinematic stuff like Morphestra or Güzin (turkish female vocal phrases) are godsends for some while others just want a nasty-funky wurlitzer or some heavy metal drums

Still, I've never really tried a full version only Kontakt library that sounded bad. Some are more flexible than others of course

Like K-Bee said, depends what kind of music you'll be making. There is so much variety out there that you need to narrow it down. Anyway, some of my favorites:

3 Sigma's drums come with Kontakt patches (as well as patches for Steven Slate Trigger), if you don't want to be locked into a drum plugin product. https://www.3sigmaaudio.com/top-shelf-drums/

Many of 8DIO's libraries require full. If you do cinematic and orchestral they're a good option.

Homegrown Sounds makes interesting Kontakt instruments that require full. http://hgsounds.com/

Ilya Efimov's stuff requires full. Nice guitars and ethnic instruments. KSHMR uses the guitars in an EDM context. They make my favorite bagpipe library. http://www.ilyaefimov.com/products/ethn ... pipes.html

Many of Impact Soundworks requires full, as does most of Orange Tree's non-Evolution line. If you do jazz they have an excellent upright bass and a sweet vibraphone. https://www.orangetreesamples.com

Soundiron has some really diverse and interesting offerings, I can't begin to list them.

Spitfire's Labs series are excellent value and go to charity, some really interesting libraries in there like the plucked grand piano.

Zero-G's Kontakt instruments require full.

I don't need Komplete either since I already have all the NI stuff I need. As to Kontakt I could get it for €125 as well and even though I already have some exotic libraries that require the full version I got away so far by building my own instruments with selections of the included samples.
Something in me just doesn't want to travel down that NI hole and it's not about the money but that bloody scheme per se - some more months down that hole there'll be Kontakt 6 (surprise!), new 3rd party libs that will need the full K6 to run, NI asking €99 or whatever for the update - and so on and so forth.

Without going into an excuse to make a list of everything I own, or feel some strange need to 'shill pro bono', I can safely say the one I use the most often has been, "Ethno World 6 Instruments". From the NI catalog... none really.

I make rock, metal, and stuff for small groups of solo orchestral instruments. Also video game soundtracks and effects. I don't enjoy or do full orchestral stuff.

Morphestra does not require the full version of Kontakt.
Ethno World 6 Instruments does not require the full version of Kontakt.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'm in the process of checking them out. Basically I'm just trying to figure out whether there are enough libraries out there that I'd eventually like to pick up that would make it worth it to pick up Kontakt Full right now.

There have been already been a couple of threads asking about Kontakt libraries in the past week or so; might be a good idea to do a search...

I did a search and didn't find anything like my question. Most of the threads are about Komplete. Got any links?

All of the Chromophones on Sound Iron are superb along with other special things like percussion instruments. The Sonic Couture has incredible drums and an incredible Ambient kit called Geosonics that has three Geosonics categories, Water, Wind & Wire. Geosonics is fully customizable with weather effects and water effects and what they call wire effects plus many oscillators you can cross mix dualy. No other 2 companies are better for uniqueness than Sound Iron and Sonic Couture when it comes to true quality and exotica.

As a side note the original Sound Iron company was called Tonehammer and split off to Sound Iron and 8Dio. 8dio is consistent with much less custom use unless you fully rework the patches and also much more average in stylization. Their demonstrations are of accomplished musicians who very well work coordinated with both hands and I find that one take music too uncreative by far no matter what, so of course assume that most musicians are advised to remix their own short takes. They call a one recording session with no edit's or overdubs one take. As for the iPad live rigs and things like the drum pads for electronic music they always horde their works for commercialization for all I know if they value them.

Hoard their music as in works I mean. If they value it for what they spend on hardware and software. I don't use hardware. Believe nothing in it except for the keys 49 or 61 key controller keyboards and a mouse plus 27" screen and computer keyboard... speakers etc. Nothing more usable for me.

What are your indispensable libraries that require the full version of Kontakt?
