I get the warning:

"The owner of store.cakewalk.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website".

Probably because they pulled the plug already. :?

I'm on Linux at the moment so I don't worry too much about it.

It is either a server hiccup while they are changing some things or they are in the process of stopping selling things....

These things happen. Nothing to be alarmed at. They could also simply need to renew the certificate. But given the recent announcement and the way corporations work.... It could just be one person not talking or listening to another person.

Or they could have truly shut down and are using 3rd parties as a last minute cash grab from folks who do not know.....

An active mind is a wonderful thing.....

@ Teksonik, If you're using firefox, you might get such warnings even on casual use sites.
If it gets annoying, there is a workaround :

Right. While I have no real fear of those instruments just "stopping" any time soon, it's really good will to go open source. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I got a similar notification, but I proceeded anyway. All that's on the "Store" site now is this:

Cakewalk's "support" was so bad it might actually be better now that they've gone out of business....

Anyway here's a way to contact Gibson.....if anyone needs to vent.

Shady business, first selling lifetime licenses and then stopping the development a few months later.. Reminds me of that Prodyon guy, although that was a one man company.

I'm 99.9% sure that was not their intention.

Well I hope they dump their command centre and leave the products we own with just a simple serial or such like, as if it stops working, thats gonna cause a shit storm.

The products you own already have a simple serial number, you should find them under your account. And the Command Centre drops the individual standalone installers into a user-definable folder, so you can just locate that and keep copies of those installers.

Trouble is the code is their intellectual property so they see it as a potential asset. They won't give it away where someone else (potential competitor?) could make money off of it rather than them.

I am surprised that when things like this happen, some pissed-off programmer has never just dumped the code somewhere on the net, maybe even an unprotected build.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
