the big question, if u use mainly MIDI editing than why not FL Studio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RljFv2vBPRE
if u depend on different MIDI gears/outboards then ok then FL is out of the question but otherwise

I typically through-compose and work in a linear fashion. People that are not fans of FLS have their reasons for their choices. Rely on things it doesn't do, in other words. Up til now and their acknowledgment of a musical reality, using actual, real time signatures which can work fluently with all divisions of time in a coherent way, the norm, will have meant avoiding the thing.xbitz wrote:the big question, if u use mainly MIDI editing than why not FL Studio

Man, this is a one hour video. Ez olyon hosszu! If you want to make a point, why not say, "See the section on MIDI starting at between around 25:00 and 39:00" or something? How many people do you think are going to stop and watch all that, or try to skim to, or guess, the parts you want to share? I'm not saying you have nothing to add here, I'm saying that I, for one, am not going to work or spend time etc. to uncover what you're trying to say?xbitz wrote:the big question, if u use mainly MIDI editing than why not FL Studio

It's a great video, watched 9 minutes so far. But why in a S1 thread?

it's not an S1 thread ... it's a looking for a DAW which has the best MIDI editing abilities but can't buy "Cubase has the best Midi around, but it is too expensive" thread but meantime "Cubase Crossgrade for Cakewalk Sonar Users / 50% off " so ...

@xbitz
Okay. Thank you for posting. It's very clarifying. I had about the same feelings regarded to FLS as the commentator during the intro. I didn't get it at all.

this is why I've posted this long one instead of " If you want to make a point, why not say, "See the section on MIDI starting at between around 25:00 and 39:00" or something?" you have to understand the "evil genius" concept behind it before u drop it away as a "toy" DAW
btw. one the mentioned issue, visible visual feedback in the playlist editor during recording (there will be with MIDI too), finally will be solved in the next version

I didn't think it was a toy DAW, though. I just remembered a track I heard years ago, made by a kid with FLS.

fyi, upped a video for u about how the navigation working in FLS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wCKNGEkiY8
everything is one click distance, patterns can be soloed, affected VST can be opened from the piano roll, samples can be edited in the inbuilt wave editor, VSTs on a mixer insert can be opened at once etc. quite nice (and it was only the visible tip of the iceberg...)

Anytime Studio One comes up in a thread title you get the minions of "try this DAW instead" crowd rush in and semi-hijack the thread in the name of their preferred DAW.
That's not just Studio One but any DAW other than the DAW mentioned. Studio One does seem to be spanked alot and may deserve it at least in the MIDI implementation but in the general sense it's as capable with a little more work then some don't give it credit for. Granted this helps sometimes for a User to find the solution that works for the OP but more times than not it turns into either a bashfest or evolves to someting other than the way it starts.
It's not a bad thing to give better options but sometimes if you need specific information it's better option to go directly to the DAW makers forum to get better answers. Maybe biased but definitely specific.
Demo(if you don't have the DAW) is by far the best solution.

I've have/tried/know FL > AL > Sonar> Cubase > Reaper > Ableton Live > Bitwig > S1 > Reason > FL again (because it finally has a lovely black skin which not hurts my eyes so took the time with it ) in this order because nobody posted me a proper FL video and thought it's only a game of the younglings, all the PDC issues will be fixed in FL20 so it's ready to serious work (after 20years )

Man, I only mentioned Reaper because it was mentioned. Don't be a nut job CTStump.
