Xiangqi wrote:...interesting... with the Revelation guitars, it seems that they ship out of England.... for just under $300 including shipping, there's a 'sunburst' version of that purple Jazzmaster on Ebay.
Well, technically, they ship out of China. Alan Entwistle lives there these days. He's an old head. See:
http://www.entwistlepickups.com/about.php?fllstry=y

He goes way back. He's a guitar guru yo! He's a contemporary of Trevor Wilkinson. They both go way back and have been involved in some of the best guitars ever built. See the Harley Benton range being knocked out by Thomann. Basically a Trevor Wilkinson designed guitar but mass produced in China, with extreme quality control. If you aren't happy, send it back.

Wilkinson and Entwistle are both Pick Up gurus. They go back to the beginning. Whatever. Read the blurb.

There are always the odd one or two going on ebay. They do limited runs, and when they are done, they are done. Like me, I got the end of the 335 run, before they got told to behave themselves. They always break the mold with new stuff. Check out their website: https://www.revelationguitars.co.uk/gui ... c-guitars/

Alan lives in China and oversees production. They are still pretty expensive, but everyone gets paid well and treated right, that is the idea anyway. Who knows if it's true?

They have a workshop in Wales, so there is a UK base.

I got that Purple Jazzmaster for 199 GBP. Man, what a guitar!

They sell out of Ma and Pa shops, and that makes me feel better about buying from them. The Chinese lads get to have a job, and the Ma and Pa get to have a markup. I don't know. It's a hell of a guitar for less than 200 quid. It sounds like nothing on Earth. Incredible.

Same shop are getting me prices on a short scale and long scale.

They keep doing these one-offs, and I keep missing them. That's a beauty. It's almost exactly the same as my Purple jazzmaster, even got the same scalloped headstock.

Damn, short-scale, long-scale, quarter-tone now...

Ended up getting a bit of a thing for Telecasters:

They aren't exactly the same as the ones I got. I got the cool head-stock logo, even if the shape is a bit f'd up.

They sound great. They play great. The necks are very very slim and to die for. Not a bad fret at a high enough action that I like to play at. Probably one or two would buzz a bit if I take it down.

But a 120 quid? Are you kidding me? Grab 'em where you can find 'em.

I love both these guitars with all my soul.

Turning out to be serious fuckeries for replacing the white scratchplate. Whatevers.

If you hunt around the net and find old stores that have these as stock they want to get rid of, you can get them for less than a oner!

Just sayin'.

Aria Pro II make superb guitars.

I'm a strat man and I've been liking what I'm seeing of the Elite series (noiseless pickups, S-1 switch for basically a humbucker sound, easy truss). I haven't held one in my hand yet, just liking the idea.

I bought one a few months ago and dislike it, hardly played it at all. Never tried a guitar with a floating trem before and just can't get on with it. "Decked" it, but now the action is much higher etc. Will probably sell it, either that or get a proper "blocked" setup with a luthier. Just not a Strat guy I guess, although it sounds great and is a dream to play with a very low action (when floating).

You should be able to get the same action decked. It would just be a setup. Blocking strat trems is like a cottage industry.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I should have owned an Aria by now. Maybe I did and forgot that I did.

An Aria 12 string was my first guitar, 43.5 years ago, now. It wasn't very good, and the neck had collapsed 4 years after I bought it 2nd hand from my brother. It never once had 12 strings on it.

I want a lap steel guitar, but not hard enough to push my wife for one. I made a promise last year of no NGDs for a while, and have kept the promise. I have 19, 2 basses, 1 Irish Bouzouki, and an Appalachian dulcimer. I have enough.

I've only got 7, a bass, a ukulele and a mandolin- only gets me to David St Hubbins.

:D

It was around 27 when I came to my senses. Buyers' market out there, sold quite a few, took losses on most of them. Learned a lot about obsession and gear. Now, if I was being offered a gig doing David Gilmour's bits in a PF tribute band, I could get away with a lap steel. But...... uh-uh.

Yeah I started sensible then fell off the bandwagon.

Back in the 70's a lot of buddy's of mine had junky guitars. The nuts were way way to high. Couldn't tune for shine ola. Fret ends were razor sharp. Brand new hondos, magnums, arias and more no names that have slipped through in the passage of time. I'd play friends crap guitars while I saved for my 335. It was a great guitar but not for me though I made it work for me. I've never had any luck with acoustic guitars 6 or 12 strings. I'd still buy one occasionally. That happened in the 90's no more.

I know this will read as hypocracy to some but.... Nothing launched my career till I owned a Les Paul. Doors that were once shut then opened wide.

I've had over 100 guitars in my life. 50 at one time. Four basses endless midi guitar type things (some actually gutitars) 6 keyboards.
I still think about more guitars. But I'm really getting into the LP Pro and want another one.

As for the car. More issues I'm going to have to scrap it and save for a few months (maybe a year at this rate) to afford another.

LPs...I've never played one that did it for me. I had one, one of the faded P-90 versions, and there was something wrong with the fretboard. Even after a re-fret (!) I couldn't get the action down to something I am comfortable with. Sold it for less than 1/2 of what I paid for it and the re-fret. Have an SG Classic, which is a great guitar, one of my top 3 electrics (I have 11 acoustics, 8 electrics).

In my dotage, I prefer to play acoustic. My acoustic collection is a dream for me.

The LP was half about the status of owning one and half about the guitar being great. Not all LP's are great. Hell I could barely get through a set with mine simply due to being crushed by the wieght. The action was perfect on my Gibson. If you still have issues after a refret then I'd consider looking twice at the nut.

LP's and Strats that's what non players / consumers think of when they think of the ultimate electric guitars.

I work as a cook at a restaurant. The other cooks all dress in T-Shirts and Jeans. I wear chef's attire. Chef coats or shirts, Chef Pants Chef Clogs. I'm not the Chef we don't have one. I'm not the kitchen manager we don't have one. I've done all that before I have more experience then the next youngest guy has years on the planet. When I wore street clothes like everyone else I was seen like everyone else. When I bought my chef outfits (because the owners are to cheap for lease or purchase. Everyone looked at me differently. I became the go to guy for knowledge. Not that I didn't have knowledge beforehand I just didn't look the part. A funny thing about working in the industry. Street clothes tend to get saturated with kitchen smells. It transfers to the rest of non work apparel. The poly cotton blend resists stains and smells last longer than street clothes and I can always do a full load of work clothes separate from my street clothes.
