Here's a new song by me. It's one of my better ones. I'd really appreciate listens, likes, feedback, opinions, etc, I'd like to know if it's a grower and if it leaves a good first impression. Chemeleon

i'm intrigued ...
seems very fizzy ; i'd experiment with rolling off quite a bit of the top end ...
speaking for myself , that causes early ear fatigue , and makes for a hard listen ...

it needs some break up , dynamically ...
there are spaces between the notes that need to be exploited ...
the vocal needs some protection from everything else you're doing ...

shows promise ...

sounded like a bunch of random, heavy brickwalled, distorted noises.
stopped listening after a few seconds. sorry.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I've solved some of the dynamics / distortion problems, let me know if it's any easier on the ears (knowing soundcloud, you may need to clear your cache to hear the new version).

Edit: My bad, it's here:

My mastering technique is pretty much "push everything to the max, run it through a maximizer". I need help achieving the same result but with less distortion. I like the 'virtual sidechaining' effect you get with a maximizer and finely tuned eqs.

As for rolling off on the top end, what specific track is causing you fatigue? Hi-hats, harp, etc? I find it hard to tell after the 200th listen haha.

I listened to both of these last night, and preferred the original mix then, but I was very tired. Tonight, I think I prefer the new mix. It sounds a little better in terms of overall dynamics. I think that some of the sibilant effects on the vocals, particularly from 1:30-1:40 (and maybe in a couple of other places) may be a little abrasive.

I loved the track. It's a very unusual combination of seemingly disparate elements which work together very well to form an engaging piece of music.

Good work :)

Always nice when somebody appreciates your work, thank you!

I redid the track again, it's here if you're interested. Hard to get right because the exotic arpeggiator I'm using doesn't respond to reset commands, so there are a lot of sync issues, but does make for a unique recording each time at least.

Very energetic:-)

The latest mix "Echo B", seems to have more DR than the previous version "Echo A". I don't think the arp behaviour made much difference to the outcome of the final track, there's quite a lot of polyrhthmic interest anyway, so it all seems to be a good fit. The vocals are a little smoother on the new version too.

Good work :)
