Has anyone experienced akai controllers changing parameters within their DAW without even touching the controller?

I have an akai mpk 49 and an akai mini and both of them will change volume sliders or random parameters by themselves. (tried multiple DAW's)

I'm on Mac OS X..

And if you have experienced this, how did you fix it?

I downloaded a program called "MIDI Monitor" to monitor the signals coming from my MPK and it is indeed sending signals all by itself. Seems to be the knobs that are sending signals.

I did some more research and found other people having the same problem, apparently this is common.

I bought this controller because M-Audio had horrible customer support when I tried to get help with one of their midi keyboards. Now I have a bad taste in my mouth for Akai too, since both the MPK and mini are doing this.

Can anyone recommend a MIDI keyboard that is known to be reliable?

I have an APC Mini and am borrowing an MPK49 (also have an MPD32 which is basically the MPK with 4 more pads, and no keys/arpeggiator).

On my Mac the Mini sometimes changes slider values on its own, but I've only noticed it in Bitwig (also use Ableton Live 9, Logic Pro X, Reason 7, Reaper 4, and AudioMulch 2). No issues ever with the MPD, or the MPK so far (3~ weeks).

May be possible to set a threshold for control changes in the MPK's Vyzex editor to prevent this kind of jitter...not sure about the Mini.

I have a problem with M-audio Oxygen 49. It sends random midi msgs. At first I thought the pitch wheel, so I opened it (4 times till now!) and calibrated it or this what I thought. No use! It just continued to send random msgs at random times!

I have been thinking a lot and in the end I bought Waldorf Blofeld which is much better quality, but it is a synth.

I have also Casio px5s which has great 88 weighted keys and nice 4 knobs, 6 sliders and mod/pitch wheels.

If I would choose a midi controller now, I would choose Roland A49 + something like Korg nano kontrol. But to be honest, I'll never buy another midi keys controller only! I feel I did the right thing. I suggest to check some discounted demos of kurzweil or other synth/workstation brand names. Maybe you can get something for a good price.

Akai and M-Audio are owned by the same parent company inMusic: http://www.inmusicbrands.com/

Hey man,

I have the same EXACT issue, on separate issue I've replace the left panel because the Bank buttons weren't working and I couldn't get to my drums on bank A. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Along with having this issue I've always had midi ghost signals being sent to my reasons sessions (and when just surfing porn) wreaking havoc by changing, pans, my synth sounds and levels. CRAZY! I was on the fence about ordering the right panel assembly from MPCSTUFF.com but what i'm going to try first is use a regular midi cable to see if that still happens. If it fails, I'm going to open it up and clean the contacts under all the buttons and faders with 99% isopropyl. If that doesn't work I'll jump out my first story window of my shitty apartment. Let me know if you were able to fix this? 8)

Resuscitating this thread...my Akai MPD32 is sending a lot of ghost info these days. It's a PITA because it's my only control surface with full transport functions and works well with Live, Reason & Logic. I don't think it's dust as I keep it covered with a tea towel whenever it's not in use. Other than a small, adorable Tabby Siamese cat occasionally trodding upon it, has not been subjected to any abuse.

Wondering if there is some kind of "MIDI threshold" plugin that could filter out slider/knob movements less than a certain CC value? I have Firmware 1.03 and this thing is probably at least 10 years old if that makes a diff.
