We live in fortunate times as far as audio synthesis goes.wagtunes wrote:
I agree. There is nothing like the thrill of turning knobs and plugging in cables. My dream has always been to someday own a full blown modular system. Sadly, it's never going to happen. But I'm content with the software toys that I have. Reaktor is like a bottomless pit that I'll never get tired of exploring. What this new system will bring, only time will tell.

This modular does sounds really interesting. The key factor is how the audio processing goes along. Only with an internal buffer of 1 sample only we can hope something "approaching" the modular feel. VCV does work at 1sample buffer. Every feedback routing will "fail" at buffer longer than 1 sample. That said even failure sounds interesting!

Hi guys. The website from cherryaudio got an update. You can now register for early access to voltage modular.

WHat's the internal update rate for modulation/cv ?
If it's not sample rate , then I am not interested at all

Found this in a pre-release FAQ:
"All audio processing in Voltage Modular uses high-quality 64-bit double precision math. Modules operate with an internal sample rate of 48kHz. All module processes are zero-latency and operate on individual samples, which is the only way to get true modular performance. Voltage feels and reacts like working with a hardware modular. Cherry Audio analog oscillators are built using advanced, proprietary alias-free analog modeling algorithm. Cherry Audio analog filters are 2x oversampled, and carefully model the minor distortions and character present in the best analog filters. Envelopes model the precise curves found in analog envelope circuits. In short, Voltage Modular isn’t just a cool synthesis platform -- it truly sounds fantastic. And it should: Voltage Modular has been designed and built by true vintage synthesizer and modular synthesizer fanatics."

2X oversampling is not much for filters but mostly enough i think.
I wonder if it is strictly mono or can be used polyphonic as well with an easy switch (something i love about P900 modular).

Seems like there's some sort of polyphony. From https://www.gearnews.com/first-fiddle-w ... rack-beta/Cinebient wrote:I wonder if it is strictly mono or can be used polyphonic as well with an easy switch (something i love about P900 modular).
I'm very much looking forward to trying Voltage! VCV Rack is great, but the DAW integration (at least in its current state) is just something I can't imagine using. After all the hassle with Rewire applications years ago, I swore to never ever use anything that requires you to launch two separate applications that are somehow supposed to stay in sync. One interesting module is the Polyphonic Oscillator which moves you into areas away from the commonly monophonic modular space.
I also love Reaktor, but with the virtual cables in a separate view, it never quite feels the same.
The only thing (so far) about Voltage that bugs me a little is the overall looks and colors. It looks like coder graphics. Softube Modular & Reaktor generally look more pleasing to me.
But what I absolutely love about Voltage (at least based on what we currently know) is the Module Designer. Being able to get down to code level (if you wish) is just fantastic!

Lots of synth modules are easy to build from scratch.wagtunes wrote:I agree. There is nothing like the thrill of turning knobs and plugging in cables. My dream has always been to someday own a full blown modular system. Sadly, it's never going to happen.

Just got the early access offer - $99 for both the core package and the Misfit electro drums module. Tempted by price but my current GAS reduction strategy is asking if a) can I already get these sounds with what I already own? and b) can I use the limited amount of spare time I have to spend it learning yet another synth?

I got an offer to buy for $ 99, but I do not know how to download a trial version.
I'm not sure that my processor Q6600 can provide the requirements. Softube Modular could not work, a very large download.

You can't. There's none. Basically you can get it blindly now for $99 or wait few weeks, read reviews and maybe try a demo and buy it for $199... I'm facing exactly the same dillema right nowfuture-bit wrote:I got an offer to buy for $ 99, but I do not know how to download a trial version
