Hi!

I've just wondered, how common is the sampling technique in modern music?
Is it an elementary technique used by professionals, or is it more a kind of beginners thing?

I think sampling in this day and age, where we can even make hq orchestral pieces on freaking laptop, is just unnecessary. Yeah, I know, it's part of the culture, if they had technology we have now, they wouldn't do it either, just sayin'.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

It depends what you mean with "sampling". If you mean the creative use of mangled and manipulated "sampled" sounds for composing, I would say it is (still) an essential part of a certain kind of music, and has been since more than 60 years.

Don't know about others but personally I use sampling alot. Usually I just sample myself though, but if I hear something cool, you can be sure I'm all over it.. Sampling like a beast and then bend it to my will. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

amateurs and professionals alike, sampling can be amazing or it can be boring.
it is not one thing, it ranges from the taking of a drum loop and repeating that right through to creating surreal textures from the sound of emptying the sink...

Sampling?
What's to stop them? I mean what's really to stop them?

Oh, I assumed that maybe some day my mother would realize that I should've gotten out.
But ah, she was nice, she would have known.
But still, what's to stop them?

^^ actually, I just realized I misquoted the speech by Murray Roman.
(Now corrected in the post above).

Weirdly, on that track I always heard ''Nah, she was nuts, she wouldn't have known'' instead of his correct words ''But ah, she was nice, she would have known''.
Says a lot about my mental issues

Dammit!
:hihi:

I just had a quick glance att the Billboard top 100 and it wouldn't surprise me if there isn't a single song on there that doesn't have a sample in it.
