Normally we put VST files to

Program Files - Steinberg - Cubase LE AI Elements 8 - VSTPlugins

Where to put

1) VST3 type of plugins?

(Program Files - Steinberg - Cubase LE AI Elements 8 - VST3) Right?

2) AAX

??

Thanks

VST3's belong to C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3, or, if you're running a 64-bit system, and install 32-bit versions of the plugins too, C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/VST3. VST2 plugins you can install wherever you want. I wouldn't put it into the hosts plugin folder though... i'd rather use a common folder, like C:/VST or similar.

I hate it when installers force you to install 32-bit versions even if you are only going to use 64-bit versions. Had such a case just recently...

You're completely wrong about AAX and if you'd followed the link I gave you, you'd know that.

1) It says

Windows (64-bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins (for AAX plug-ins)
C:\\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins (for TDM/RTAS plug-ins)

However It's not the Plugin folder which Steinberg Cubase use?

2) and Where should I install RTAS type of plugins?

Post

AAX & RTAS are ProTools only formats. Cubase can't do jack with them.

I'd say either the installer knows where the DAW expects them to be, or you'd just point the DAW where your plugin locations actually are.

You gave the answer to #2 in #1 already

AAX, TDM and RTAS are for Pro Tools only, aren't they?

As you are on Cubase you don't need them / cannot use them.

Only for 32-bit plugins on a 64-bit system.

Well of course not.

Reread what you posted.

Why are you asking this? Are you a programmer or an end-user? What host are you using. I would have thought all of this was known to the former, and there's no host that an end-user would have that uses more than two of any of these.

The software shows them at the installation. So I thought they should be installed.

Summary

I don't have to install "AAX and RTAS" plugins for Cubase.

Thank you very much for answers.

You are wrong. :P It doesn't matter where you put VST and VST2 plugins... and it hasn't anything to do with Steinberg Cubase either. It also doesn't have to do with 32-bit or 64-bit. VST plugins are installed wherever you like. Only VST3 have to be installed into Program Files/Common Files/VST3.

Yep. You don't need them at all for Cubase.

Any installer offering those versions will always put them in the only place they can go.

Only VST3 have to be installed into Program Files/Common Files/VST3.

1) Why?

2) What about ".vstsound" files?

1. Your host (Cubase) won't find VST3 in another place. But you can pick the host where to find VST2. Don't question why. It's a rule, you can change nothing here.
2. .vstsound files are banks and presets. Put them anywhere you want.
