Top and Tail Fades set up in Reaper?

trying to set up an action to mimic protools / studio-one small fades on item edges with a key command.
i dont have fades on items set to on as default but want to create an action to do this whenever necessary
any tips?

Actions -> Show action list -> type "fade"
From there you can add a shortcut key for "item: disable default fadein/fadeout" and "item: enable default fadein/fadeout".
If this behavior was what you're after.
Though you can select the audio item, press F2 and you open a menu where you can do a lot more than just fade.
