Any free alternative to MCompare and Magic AB? Maybe a M4L device?

Try http://www.tb-software.com/TBProAudio/ab_lmjsfx.html, but you need ReaPlugs to run it. But MCompare is worth the money, especially if you wait for a sale. Great tool.

I cant work out if this is a freebie. The download page says you can "upgrade" for €39 ... ?.jon wrote:Haven't tested, but https://hofa-plugins.de/en/plugins/4u-blindtest/

"HOFA 4U+ BlindTest is free. Up to 3 tracks can be compared.thecontrolcentre wrote:I cant work out if this is a freebie. The download page says you can "upgrade" for €39 ... ?.jon wrote:Haven't tested, but https://hofa-plugins.de/en/plugins/4u-blindtest/
Furthermore, HOFA 4U+ BlindTest can be licensed to be used with an unlimited number of tracks.
This upgrade can be done at any time for 39,90 €."
But afaik, Hofa BlindTest can't load mp3s or other files, so it's not really an alternative to Magic A/B or MCompare.

Old thread here I know but... does anyone know where the heck you can get the AB Assist VST? I see lots of references to it, all saying it's free, but nowhere to actually get it. I'd really like to check it out. Thanks!

Not sure they are real equivalents but two M4L devices:

Any sampler and then you can reference trigger tracks from your keyboard at will. Most of us have a AU/vst sampler or at least a stock DAW one.
With even a 2 octave keyboard and no octave selecting, it gives you loads more slots than Magic AB and therefore you can have the added bonus of different sections of the same reference tracks spread over your keyboard. Most of us have a sampler already so this is actually a more flexible solution whilst being free
Cheers

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

I appreciate the idea but to me that sounds like a very painful wokflow. Dropping tracks into a sampler would require a lot of tedious setup for every reference track, every time and not give you a simple A/B option (without a fair amount of setup first), certainly no "blind test" functionality which some of these have, no automatic level matching, etc. These types of plugins are IMO primarily workflow enhancers... I mean sure you could just throw extra tracks into your daw, route them to the external out (at least in Ableton anyway) to bypass your master chain, and solo them any time. Using a plugin just makes certain things easier, quicker, etc.djscorb wrote:Any sampler and then you can reference trigger tracks from your keyboard at will.
