Any tests with different OS/DAW, lets say Win 10 and Live 9?
In Reaper, with "Freeze all tracks stereo", the final CPU consumption is between 0.5 to 1, without the screen recorder (the same project of the video but without the screen recorder and the antivirus working in background, since I was no making any videocast).

In Cubase Pro 9.5 (last update, same PC) same results: with the freeze function the plugins are completely disabled and then no relevant CPU consumption happens.

Anyway N4 Player is compeltely free, all AA and 3rd Party Plugins are completely free and fully functional for 4 weeks. The customers are welcome to test themselves their best DAW+OS configuration.

Waiting also for the results from sales@AA

s28 wrote:Really great sounding eq, doesn't use too much cpu on my system whereas bronze was absolutely taxing it! That's intended as a mastering eq though so in context that's ok, this I can use many instances though and it really does sound good. Considering purchasing it, the pre and the bands are just lovely.

London acoustics - as your familiar with the hardware and have made the plugin, what's your opinion on where it excels and any particular uses you have for it?
Hi s28, the EQ sounds great for mixing, as insert possibly in each track. The main purpose is to make the track sounding better (dynamic, THD and magnitude), and in this case the preamp alone worth.
We find TOKYO very useful in vocal tracks, as well for acoustic guitars, drums and track warming/shining duty. It's a tube EQ in the same league of Pultec (in every of its declinations, clones, Manley, DW Fearn VT4, etc) but with different frequencies action and workflow.
In the Acqua/Nebula realms there are very few EQ with these narrow Q in the bands, then it's also very interesting as fixing (precise but not sterile) Equaliser, amazing feature for vocals.

In attachment you'll find some presets we did for our own projects (although we do not believe so much in presets for equalizer).

Where are the sound example attachments? Do not seem to be available in Win 10/Firefox 59 anyway?

Killer reply!!

I also don't believe in presets for an EQ but it's still nice to see what your doing with it and get some ideas. I don't use presets for anything really come to think of it, just tweak till it sounds good.

Well I'm going to demo some more when I can and I'm considering getting this to compliment my console style eq. This has something nicely different going on, especially with the pre.

Harry HH - I'm getting around roughly 14%-16% on lives meter with all bands and the pre enabled.

Hi Harry_HH, TOKYO EQ is available as free trial fully functional for 4 weeks, we believe there are no better audio demos than try yourself the plugin directly on your system/music.

Or there's a quick demo from one of our videos (remember anyway that it's a lossy youtube compression):

For Hi-Res audio files, you can find some audio demos (under "Audio FIles" tab) in our official product page:

OK - I just believed you had attached the sound examples above where you have presets example pics.

Hey guys, here is the promised report on the situation with N4 and N4 Player bypass options and CPU consumption. I really don’t think that there is any reason for worries, but please read and judge this for yourself. All information I managed to collect is below and I hope you appreciate our transparency on the matter.

Bypass case number 3 below should be identical to freezing tracks and it must release all consumed resources. But keep in mind that plug-ins and/or virtual instruments are unloaded following the freeze rules from the host (not Nebula). Normally plug-ins and/or virtual instruments are unloaded from CPU and RAM, but we have no control over every single DAW.

Just in case we did a check in Cubase 9.x, Logic Pro X 10.x, latest Reaper and Pro Tools 12.x/2018.x and on our side freeze works as expected and as desired!

However, if you find a behaviour that is different in a specific DAW, please let us know with a support ticket. It will be much appreciated! If this is happening it will most certainly be a fault of the host, not Nebula. In such case we will have to investigate further and contact the DAW manufacturer.

And here are the different bypass cases. I am giving some examples with Pro Tools as it is the DAW I know best and it includes all cases described below. It can be DAW dependent.

Just to be clear, case 1 and case 2 are meant to audition the effect of the plug-in processing, not to save resources. Case 3 is designed to save resources.

1) N4 Universal Aqua Engine bypass (the inside Nebula bypass – visible in edit mode).

Bypasses audio processing only, CPU load remains the same or almost the same and delay compensation remains exactly the same.
1. Nebula Bypass.png
With this bypass type the resources are not released to avoid lost audio buffers (and hence possible massive audio clicks/spikes). CPU will be very similar to no-bypass state (perhaps a tiny bit less due to metering not active). This bypass also uses the N4 UAE built-in fade in/fade out option for a better transition when merging the processed and non-processed audio streams.

2) Host (sequencer, editor, or DAW) plug-in insert bypass

This behaves similarly to case 1) but there is no fade in/fade out applied between the processed and non-processed audio streams (I am waiting for a confirmation from support, because it may be the case that in some hosts fades are still applied).
So this bypasses audio processing only, CPU load remains the same and delay compensation is not applied. Stop and resume playback may be necessary depending on DAW.
2. DAW Insert bypass.png
In Pro Tools this will be the CMD + click or simply clicking on the PT 'bypass' button.

3) Full bypass - unload from RAM/CPU or freeze track

The plug-in is unloaded from RAM and CPU, delay compensation for the bypassed Nebula instance is not applied. Stop and resume transport will most probably be necessary.
3. DAW deactivate full bypass.png
In Pro Tools this is the CMD + CTRL + click which Avid name 'deactivate' plug-in.

Similar behaviour will happen using build-in host freeze option and a ‘child session’ will be created to save the before freeze settings.

Let me know if any questions. Thanks for reading.
