Hey folks,
I need a new XLR to XLR cable for my microphone. There's millions to choose from. Can anyone suggest a decent quality one? Or what brands to look out for? I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like something fairly good quality.
Cheers!

You can spec one or buy premade (direct or on Amazon). I’ve used them since they started and never had a dud.
My personal preference is Sommer Carbokab with Neutrik plugs.
For cheaper ones, I use proel livewire and Planet waves. Prices vary but you can find deals on Amazon and ebay. Also, CPC ( http://cpc.farnell.com/ ) has van damme/neutrik (and generics) bargains pretty regularly.
Cordial is a common brand in Europe (Thomann etc.) and they are good. I use their XLR Leads to connect my Audio Interface to my Active Monitors. They came as a bundle with the monitors but I’ve never had any need to change them.
You can also find end of line bargains on ebay. I got a Zaolla XLR 10m for £15 once.

I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

Quality cable??? It's good if it has near-zero resistance, proper shielding, and connectors that don't break within 5 years.
Rule of thumb: a good connector (eg Neutrik) costs $5 (two are needed) and shielded cable is $1 per meter.
So a market-conform price for a 6m XLR cable is about $15.
And needless to say: avoid Monster cable.

Yeah pretty much this. Unless you have a 6 figure studio really all you want is something that’s reliable. Monoprice is another good option.BertKoor wrote:Quality cable??? It's good if it has near-zero resistance, proper shielding, and connectors that don't break within 5 years.

Thanks guys. Yeh I basically want something that's not gonna break anytime soon and is gonna be low noise. With your tips I think I've narrowed it down to this:

or this:

I also saw this (not sure if I trust it though - looks too cheap!):

Keep in mind, that "low noise" is also a question of the input resistance of your mixing console and (sometimes even more) a question of the output resistance of your mic. Good mics nowadays have 30 ohms and less beeing able to drive long cables and little input resitances of mixing consoles. I for instance already modified a console to lower the resitance down to 500 ohms to make it fit for long distance operation.
