Thanks for the tip on Retcon Boards of Canada by AudioWarp. Looks very interesting!

I kind of like the sequencing in sonicotures Box of Tricks.

Perhaps a little off-topic, but I feel it's relevant: Do NOT miss the amazing XronoMorph if you're looking for unusual (and free) sequencing delights. You can load your own VST or AU plugins into it, or send MIDI to an external software or hardware synth. I mostly use it standalone via the Mac's indispensable IAC driver, driving Kontakt, Reaktor, anything in Logic, everywhere.
Cheers David, that XronoMorph does look good indeed (and free!!).
I particularly like this from the website:
''The rhythmic loops can be saved as presets within XronoMorph; they can also be saved as Scala scale tuning files, which means XronoMorph can be used as a tool for designing well-formed (MOS) and perfectly balanced microtonal scales.''

@Noddog and SJ_Digriz: Yeah, both of those are very interesting ideas for sequencers.

I'm interested in buying Chordscape, as it looks like an excellent idea for a ''non stop tape'' sequencer, but the price is a bit steep for me:

Lastly, for anyone interested in making their own sequencer in Kontakt, this is great advice (which some of you will undoubtedly know) from SoundonSound:

Cool stuff, thanks all!

About time Kontakt's un-heralded MIDI superpowers got some time in the spotlight; may it spend much time there—well deserved:)

In the K10 rumor thread, it kind of turned into a "what I want" list. For me one of the biggest problems is how awful the editing is. From a user of library perspective, it is straight forward. But, trying to do any advanced parameter things is just painful. I don't bother. I just go to Halion or Flacon. All of those subwindows need to be full sized edit windows. I think things like this will be more prevalent if that occurred. Pure speculation though. Quite possible people will still ignore all those windows that you can expand

Are you referring here to Kontakt VST's MIDI out feature? It's definitely a hidden treasure! I'd say that taking all the options together, Kontakt all by itself IS an uber sequencer, or even better, about the best overall MIDI FX device I know of.

Many if not most sequencers found in K libraries are based on factory scripts, which can be used to drive other plugins without even loading any samples, just loading a new instrument, once you set up this MIDI-out behavior in Options, shown at left below, then switch to the Script Editor in the wrench view and load a preset. I particularly like the MIDI Echo under Effects and the Poly Step under Sequencing. At right is how to set up Live so Kontakt is only used for MIDI out, driving whatever other plugin you want.

For example, Sound Dust's wonderful Chaos Engine variants are (very) prettied-up versions of the factory Drum Computer, and his walk-thru videos about them are great tutorials on how to use the script, once you get that it's there. The Drum Computer is also used by ModWheel to create lots of cool guitar-picking patterns in their Tin Guitar library

But even arpeggiators and sequencers that go beyond the factory scripts almost always will send MIDI out, too; in fact I haven't found one that doesn't.

Other libraries worth checking out include:
any of Sample Logic's that include a Step Animator
Realitone's Banjo and Fingerpicking
Studio Weapon's Underscore (looks like that's no longer available, too bad!)
TURNER MK2 by Sturmsounds-Electro
Audiofier's Abstrung
Lots of SonicCouture stuff, but look especially at their amazing inexpensive scripts-only collection, Scriptorium, for many seq and arp options.

I expect I'll think of some others:)
Excellent topic, and great list previously. I'm a HUGE fan of all the counter-intuitive, fairly confusing delights from sir szcz—Thank you!!

Yes, exactly! Thanks for posting the screenshot.

BTW, I just recently got hold of Blue Cat's Patchwork plugin, which comes as an Audio Unit MIDI FX, so it runs in Logic and hosts VSTs. Soooo, I've now got the VST version of Kontakt inside it and running all these great sequencers and other MIDI scripts flowing beautifully out to anything I install as an instrument in the same track, all mixed up with the built-in MIDI modulators, and 3rd-party MIDI FX. And recording them all as MIDI using the equally fantastic MIDI FX Freezer. BLISS!

I waffled for a long time over getting PatchWork, which is clear now was just wasted time.

I tried to make a poor man's version of the The Orchestra. Note the words tried and poor, but hey its free...

Here's a bargain for Kontakt sequencer collectors, working really well inside Patchwork as a MIDI FX, lots of presets, variations and keyswitch controls, £3.5 through August, instead of £35.0:

And if you don't want the samples, there's two of the sequencers from the collection that are free, Matrix and Chain, including all the preset variations.

SampleLogic's deep arpeggiator is available inside this library for $50, "Until the end of this year’s FIFA World Cup":

Wow! Such an interesting prospect! I was reading the thread to find ways to create my own sequencer... I'll definitely have to check this out! Thanks

Anybody looking for interesting, unusual Kontakt sequencers should NOT miss the frankly astonishing group buy going on here, now (along with many other Kontakt products from this amazingly imaginative and skilled developer):

The home site:

The KVR Thread, with lotsa YT links:

It's astounding to me how under-noticed this guy, and this buy, is. Among the best, deepest, most versatile Kontakt scripting I've ever seen. And the PRICE ($20) is flat-out crazy!

Here's another wonderful deal on a huge collection of interesting Kontakt sequencing and arp scripting devices: ChannelRobot's Everything 4 Ever subscription. Basically 9£ for everything he's ever made, then hang around if you want to see what comes next…and there's a lot in the pipeline.

Every one of his products is unusual and innovative both sound-wise and in scripting:

I'm LOVING Motion, the latest addition, esp for its polyrhythmic arpeggiator. Video demos here:

How is the timing of the kontakt sequencers
Since these are script based , I assume these are not driven by an audio pulse clock
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies
