Hi,
I want to put up my arsenal with some distortion pedals, amps and such. For the moment I use the Ignite Amp and TSE Audio stuff. I wonder which (free) plugins experienced guitar user would recommend ...
TIA

I can recommend Preamps: Mercuriall JCM800 Preamp V1.3, JCM800 Hot Preamp V1.3 and Harlequin Preamp V1.3 (all Freeware)
These 3 Preamps can sound and feel pretty good in combination with the power amp plugin Ignite Amps TPA-1 (Freeware).
Use your free cabinet/speaker/mic Ir Loader of choice.

BlueCat Audio 'Free Amps' were just released, extremly
dynamic and playable, add their free plugin collection
is excellent for modulations
GrindMachine has nice a free version for metalhedz
The rack of effects from the free version of Guitar Rig 5
is an excellent compliment to Ignite and TSE.
The free Amplitube Custom Shop version has a basic setup
and when Amplitube is running, and your Shop is online,
you can test each of their add-ons, during a 48-hour period,
and then buy ala-cart the ones you are impressed with,
$15-$40 price range,
the Fulltone collection of 3 plugins, distortion, chorus
and delay is on sale now, and make a great trio using
the free amps.
BlueCat Destructor and Axiom have demos that drop sound
for a second, periodically but are the cream of the Amp-sim crop,
and you can learn them well as you save up for a purchase.
The Computer Music Magazine has many good effects,
$5 for a digital edition at zinio, then download 2 gig or so
of plugins, from 'filesilo', authorized by using Zinio's
online-reader for answering a question, the answer to which
is easily found on a page of your new magazine.
Find someone to sell you an old CM dvd
from before they insisted on having both PC/ Mac versions,
It has CM Fuzz, with an excellent randomizer
for it's filter, compressor and distortion, with preset save/load
on the gui.
The Mercurial items mentioned above are indeed keepers,
as well as many from Voxengo, like Boogex...
We're surrounded!!!
Cheers

Good suggestions already. I'll add;

Still my absolute fave Fender style emulation. The Flextron amp is nice too;

Hey, some great recommendations so far. For anyone who's looking for free stompbox VSTs, there are a quite a few of them out there -- IHMO, the best are those by Mercuriall Audio and TSE Audio, they're top notch. The former just released a chorus pedal that also works great as a stereoizer (with the speed knob set to zero) and the latter has a fantastic Tube Screamer emulation that is better than most of the payware options.
